Servo advice.

Hi guys and girls

I currently run a Savox 1258 in my XB4 steering and have run the same servo
in every 2wd and 4wd I have used in the last 2 plus years, LOVE the servo
speed and strength.
size, etc is perfect.

BUT

As many of you know there power hungry and I have to run an RX power cap.
I seem to have been eating power caps over the last year or so, having replaced them 3 times(yes there cheap) its becoming annoying.

SO

question, Is there a better option to the power issue than a power cap in the RX?

or is there an equivalent servo from someone else that's strong and reliable and at least as fast and not stupidly priced. and NOT power hungry so I need a power cap........

never found a need to run a power capwith my Savox servos Darren and i have run them in both 1/8th and 1/10th?

Is it a Spektrum receiver? Had a similar issue but sent the receiver in they could not replicate the fault so sent me out a new unit anyway and never used a Cap since

The BEC in your ESC isn't able to produce enough current to run the servo and keep the RX alive. Disable the internal BEC by disconnecting the red wire on the ESC to RX plug, and plug a separate voltage regulator or UBEC into a spare RX channel. I wouldn't want more cables and stuff in the car, just provides more things to get in the way and go wrong with.

If you are using spektrum yes you may have problems, and look at upgrading the RX to a DSM2 but it could still have problems.

I have used a hitec 7775mg in my XB4 for a while and really like it especially as it has a servo saver. I have done two sets of gears in the yok mr2 but these were used servos and my son was driving and the wall jumped out in front of him and I hit piping hard

I really can't fault these 09sec/9kg and pretty cheap.

I have recently tested the protek 100SS super speed and 100T tourqe in both cars (these are from amain) cheap and I really like them, I have the tourqe in the XB4 with a little longer servo arm and I currently have the SS in the yok although with a too short a arm so I can't get full throw. This will be resolved later on.

I can recommend these as well for price and quality

Price wise I really don't think you can find a better servo than the savöx.. although the HD servos that are out do look good.

MKS1210 is another one to look at, Im going to try this later

I've been through this.
DSM2 solved it.

Ditching the savöx stopped it reappearing!

The MKS1210 worked well, and is very cheap.
Other than that, I've got a second hand futaba bls451 in one car, and a blue highest servo in the other.

Yeah mattr the jammy bugger got the highest servo from JE when they were first released for about £40

Another thumbs up from me for Xpert RC Servos from me.

I run the SN-3401 but have seen a cracking deal from MB models on the SI-3401:

Being brushless, these are way better than savox coreless motored servos, and draw a lot less current.

While all of these solutions will work, the problem is not the receiver or the servo. It is the ESC, the BEC circuit in particular. Some of the Spektrum receivers are more sensitive to dips in supply voltage, but they really shouldn't be happening if the BEC circuit was up to it.

No its the servo that is drawing lots, savöx are the only ( that I know of) servos that suffer from this problem together with the spektrum radios
Ace can be knowen to draw a bibt as well
Orion are the same as savöx so don't swap to those

When I had spektrum radio with the savöx this was the problem. Tried lots of things and the best for ME was swapping radios.. Sanwa all the way

But the cheaper option is to swap the servos and the problem will go away

Full size KO RSX, powerfull to boot and no cap needed.

Try a way back Savox/KO (2413) and there was no match at all.

yes its a spectrum mini RX along with the savox.

had the same problem with all 3 receivers in all 3 buggies all using 1258's servos so I know its not a faulty servo, rx or esc.

but maybe the combination of the savox and spectrum is the issue....

I have decided to go for a Sanwa Gemini X radio with 451 receiver anyway...

so, from a lot of comments, you think the problem may go away with the sanwa receiver?

or will I still have the issues as its a power sucking 1258?

I know I will have to try it I guess.

A club mate just went from problems with the DX3c and orange dsm2 and 1258 to the sanwa MT4 and 451 and now its fine

I am changing to Sanwa anyway, regardless.

so that's sort of solving the half issues I guess???

will try it when I get the sanwa and see what happens, I love the savox and its proved to be super strong and fast and reliable.

IF I still get power sucking issues after the receiver change I will have to accept I need a different servo.

What sort or torque do people think is OK for high grip Astro. I mainly run at Silverstone, I don't have any issues with what I run (Futaba bls351 and savox 1251)but I have a KO PS 2174FET sitting in my pit bag that I'm thinking of putting in a KF. The specs look ok, albeit an old servo do you think it would be Ok.
