Unfortunately, at the moment what you want is exactly what everyone else wants too. The Espace (whilst a bit creaky) was bloody good at doing its job cheaply and relatively reliably. The only word of advice I can offer is do not - whatever you do, and no matter how cheap it seems - consider a Mk1 Peugeot 806/Citroen Synergie/Fiat Ulysse. They are the biggest steaming turds of a car (well, actually a poorly disguised van) EVER :thumbdown::thumbdown:.

If you have one and its never let you down, well done you are one of the members of a very exclusive club.

I'd suggest you go for something deeply uncool as that'll keep the price down. Is a Mitsubishi Grandis or Mazda's deeply uninspiringly named "MPV" out of the budget

How about a Mercedes Benz Vito traveliner ? I got the van and love it ! the traveliner has 2 front seats and 5 in the back I think !

I am after one, I appreciate the advice though guys, but I won't touch the Peugeot/Fiat/Citroen ones, or the Kia Sedona, I would happily got for a crew van to be honest... and my money won't stretch to a VW.

Now for a helpful post: www.parkers.co.uk

It will tell you the type of cars which suit you and has proper owners reviews on their experiences.

what is your budget Steve? you'll be surprised what you can get a T4 for.

My mate got a banged up 100,000 mile 2.4 crew cab for £800 last week, bit of filler and respray and he's got a mint looking T4 for less than 2k

Ash, trust me, after the day I have had... humour is quite low on my shopping list.... I am still waiting to find out how much my car is going to cost me to fix... again

He got it from Free ads.

You can get 51-53 plate Ex AA's direct from Lombard Tricity going through the Newport Auctions for under £4k, so there have to be some bargains out there if you look hard enough.

PM me your budget and I'll keep my eye out for you.

edit: bondy beat me to it.

I may be selling mine, but it'll be a little while - i'm saving up for one of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130247344642).

how many seats is your Merc, I did have a sneaky poke in it, I got to get the Espace back on the road first, so it is worth more than scrap value

I have a VW Sharan for my tribe. I know they are not cheap, but mine is a 1998 with almost 100,000 on it and it has been indestructible. First VW I ever had, but will keep till it falls apart completely.

Sorry for your hassles - my old 7 seater Renault Savannah used to pack up regularly and it's way not funny when the family are looking to you every day for transport / taxi services:(

Hope you get sorted soon - don't give up!
