View Full Version : Can the solder points on this servo be fixed?

Hi all
I have this servo that I was looking at shortening the leads.
When I went to remove the leads the whole solder tab came with it. Can it be fixed? OR should I look for a broken one if possible and replace the board?

Is there any room in the other part of the case? What you could do if you are very careful is get some telephone wire cores to replace the lost tracks. You will have to follow the track to the next component and solder 1 end to that then leave the insulation on and push a tinned end through the holes where the tabs were leaving some exposed core to solder the RX lead to. Just make sure you don't overheat the components

Either do what beale suggested and solder back at the next junction taking care not to ovefheat the components. Or you could use a fine abrasive or a craft knife to gently remove some of the insulation off the remainder of the pcb track and tin then solder to that instead. Don't rub too hard as the copper isn't very thick.

I would start with the middle one as you have a lot of wide track to learn on.

Ideally you need a pcb pad repair Kit. Something like this http://www.techni-tool.com/246SO7173 to replace the pads you removed. If you dont have it either wire directly to the part next in the circuit as said earlier or carefully scrap the green coating on the track that the pads connected to and expose the copper track then solder to the track. Be careful not to scratch the coating either side of the track you need as this may cause hassle when solder later as it may short.

Done with my 10mm iron and 1mm solder

I covered it with shoe goo and then wiped it off again to take the pic as I forgot. Covered it again as well as a little on the outside of the casr to help the wire strength as I threw the rubber grommet.

White wire soldered on the track and the edge of the component as that was the smallest bit left

Should have asked, I've got a couple of 1mm tips for the soldering iron!
