spec 10.5 class electronics

I bought a B4 a few yrs back with the intention of racing but i couldnt control it (complete beginner with a 7.5turn motor) the whole experience put me off the idea of racing and i lost interest just bashing it.

I have just bought a Schumacher cougar sv2 and need help with choice of ESC that is affordable but reliable and will be fine with a 10.5t motor.

I have a budget of £60 but could push another tenner out of the wife if needs be for the ESC.

I really have no idea what is good and what isnt, what breaks and what doesnt etc etc.

You want the 120A version and as Fid says above, there are plenty around second-hand inside your budget - keep an eye out. Also look out for the new G-Force from Zen Racing and a good used LRP SXX version 1 or 2. Your budget is below anything that will give you the throttle feel you need for 2WD off-road as a new speedo, but persevere on the forums or auction sites and you will come up with something soon.

Plenty of us have had years of good service from the speedos described above that we bought second-hand. HTH :)

Thanks for the advice everyone. If buying new would the 120a v2.1 still be a good buy or would it be bettered by something else?

It's still an excellent speedo, no problem with using it competitively today despite it being superceded by the v3.1. Depending on how you want to run it (boosted or blinky) it can be set in the boost mode and then run with no boost.

The throttle response is excellent and ideal for Off-Road. Buy with confidence! HTH :)

That speedo is really good, I had a 60A, it's reliable and it should be more than enough on 10.5T motor and you can add more boost to it. I ran mine with 6.5T and it get little warm with fan on

but if you really want 120A.... you can get 120A called Tyrannosaurus 120A on ebay for £40 but its a knock off copy and It works with hobbywing ESC program card/software.

right... after non stop looking online at ESC's i have decided to puch the budget and buy new for peace of mind.

so the Hobbywing 120a v2.1 is at the top of the list.

I will have to buy a motor to and have come across the Speedpassion Reventon Pro esc/motor combo for £125. How do these compare to the hobbywing, theres a lot of posts on these (some good/some bad) but seem popular.

£125 is really at my limit.

Ok thats put me off the reventon pro as ive read a few comments regarding reliability problems.

Are the speed passion motors just as hit and miss?

Motors i have looked at are ones that are fairly cheap and as far as i know could be crap.

They are Speedpassion v3 10.5 and the HPI flux pro competition 10.5.

Would any of those be any good for me and a match with the Hobbywing Esc?

the motor are not bad. I run them. depend if you want 3 gold connectors or soldered wire directly to motor.

I had a lot of good reliable performance from my HPI Flux 10.5, so would recommend that. It worked very well with the boost settings on my v2.1 HW speedo, and took a lot of heat and speed without complaint. I sold it on and the new owner was also pleased. (I gave up 10.5 as a 12th class, no other reason to sell it).

I've no experience of the SP motors, so can't comment. :)

I have run speed passion V3 motors with a few hobbywing ESC's. Fantastic value sensor boards have been known to fail (rare but can happen) but as you can buy the V3 motors for £32 it's still good value. You could probably get away with the 90amp V2.1 in a 2wd. I use a 60amp in my tourers with boosted 10.5/13.5 motors

will be looking for a used gt2.0 pro or a new hobbywing 120a.

will using a 10.5 motor with boost or turbo be able to keep up with lets say 7.5t motors that seem to be more commonly used, or will i be at a significant disadvantage? (i should say when skills progress)
