along with a lot of local authorities which seriosuly narks me. If they dont need all the money they charge in council tax then either reduce it or spend it on what they should be spending it on, roads, schools etc etc

Why are our councils using overseas banks in the first place? I know its probably something to do with getting an extra 0.00000276% interest but really its not on is it. Or am I just being sensible.

Its easier to hide/lose ;)

Also they will not pay UK tax on their interest :)

So hang on a mo. Our own Councils shift money overseas to avoid paying taxes on it to our own Government? FFS, this politics/financing stuff is just made up as they go along innit. Its enough to make you get a dose of Tourettes.

You are supposed to declare what you have abroad but only a fool would put it all in one place and if you have more than one account you tend to forget what is where when the tax man asks;)

well, when they get given their allocation of cash at the start of the financial year, they can't just stuff it under the mattress can they, and if they can stash it away to earn a little bit of extra interest, so there is more to go round, then so be it, don't forget that the LGA advised the councils to do this which came from the government. So financialy it was an astute move.

But I think the government has been extremely slow to react to the problems.

I think its funny how those banks in iceland that have gone tits up were supported by the FSA, it makes you wonder if the mattress is the best place?
