Hi Guys,

This is going to be stupid question, but hope someone can point out what maybe wrong.

I have built the Cat half way through and placed all the belts on and the drive train is prett stiff is this right or wrong?
The belts are lose at point but everything seems stiff to turn doesnt move freely if you know what i mean like touring car does.
Also on page 4 in the manual Step 5 the white gear when placed on do you tighten that nut up really tight or just leave bit loose cause i have notice if you tighten it up that get stiff.
I guess ive gone wrong somewhere, hope someone has any ideas what it might be.........

Apart from that the car goes together so well i'm very impressed

When I build mine, I also noticed a stiffness in transmission where you indicated, on intermediate ratio gears. When you tight to much locknut placed on white gear and/or on slipper spring, you put more stress on brand new gears so the stiffness appears. But I guess this will be something of the past once the first run will be made ;)

Try each belt at a time, e.g take the middle and rear belts off and make sure that the front belt runs free on its on. Then try the middle belt and so on. This will determine which area the tight spot is. I would reccomend checking you havent built the car wrong before you try it.

pully u3357 if fitted the wrong way round will slighty rub on the alloy gearbox housing.

I fitted that part rong at first then I put it right and that got rid of the stiff drive train.

From seeing 2 other cars with this problem i'd say you either have shims in the wrong places or most likely one of the middle belt pullys is on backwards and catching on the gearbox.

the nut on the white side idler gear should be tight, take the middle belt off and check both ends independently.

I was going to suggest pulley and reversing but seen has already.

It is also worth checking the screws that mount the front pivot blocks to the bulkhead, if you reverse these the larger one will rub on the diff and cause friction.
