Yes. The black o-rings are quite hard. Try the brown ones from yokomo.
Using green slime helps.

its the outdrive orings for sure:
try these: http://www.rccarshop.co.uk/index.php/spares/yokomo/b-max2/bd-500g0-bd7-o-ring-4pcs-for-gear-diff.html

or i've found these also work, if a little tight to start with:

The gasket can also get damaged after a while, so worth doing as its cheap enough: http://www.rccarshop.co.uk/index.php/spares/yokomo/b-max2/b2-501gg-mr-rs-differential-case-gasket.html

I'll be rebuilding my gear diff today for the first time, is a bit of green slime round the gasket edge worth doing as well?

No. Use some black grease. Green slime is used to stop swelling of o-rings.

will do that, thanks

how are people shimming the diff? just the supplied shims ok? noticed that one of my outdrives was bit wobbly hence my strip down. think it was my fault as i'd done a whole meeting with a locked down slipper plate with a 6.5 tekin on high grip astro. managed to wreck a alu idler and broke some teeth on the gear diff casing!

locked spring down in the week to try to soften it but forgot to reset it

new bearings, diff case, gasket, o-rings and idler gears going in now
