It can be seen that the gear diff is narrower overall than the ball diff which it replaces by 2mm. So if the suspension geometry is unaffected and therefore the plunge of the driveshaft into the out drive. Which is correct? They can't possibly both be.

I didn't have any issue running LAW50 on my DB2, got to check that but I have no markings on the outdrives (at full compression) with the gear diff as I used to have with the ball diff so maybe they modded their outdrives on the gear diff.
Your ball diff comes from your ZX6 ?

Yes, these are both ZX6 diffs. Kit standard ball diff and optional gear diff. There are some witness marks on the drive shafts where they have touched on the ball diff outdrives on full droop / compression, so maybe the shorter gear diff outdrives are the new standard...

There is no problem with either - you are right though that on the ball diff outdrives it does mark the drive shaft a little.
Obviously you don't need that much droop so it get really marked up so reduce this.
If you look on my ZX6 set up it gives you the shock shaft length that works real well and eliminates this problem if you want to call it that.
Hope that helps a little
