All

I have one of the above, but i am not sure if it is working correctly. Is there a way to test it? I left it plugged into the Receiver with the car on for 30 mins and when i checked the voltage it said 5 volts, however the cap says 10 volts on it. Am i missing something or is this ok?

I would doubt the CAP will ever read 10v, as you're powering it from the BEC circuit on the receiver. The BEC should be outputting around 6v.

To test, are you removing the CAP before switching off the speedo?

Difficult to test a Capacitor. Usually they will go open circuit if faulty. Take the Cap out of the rcv, and put it on a Digital volt meter, (set to Ohms) with the positive lead of the DVM connected to the positive of the Cap you will see the resistance level increase, (difficult to see on modern auto range digital voltmeters) and settle at a very high resistance figure MegaOhm..
Naturally the oposite way round the cap will discharge, (again difficult to spot on a modern type DVM. At college the best way we found to test them was on a Analogue AVO)

Hope that helps.

The cap will only ever charge up to whatever the BEC voltage is as Phil says. Caps are usually overspec'ed on voltage (like this) as if they get overvoltage'd they bang off very loudly.

So in conclusion, it's fine. :D
