If anyone can give some general advice i would be most grateful.
I run a zx5 indoors and have changed to mini pins (yellow), i run the car with the front diff and the one way fitted, basically the car steers agressively but is reasonably controllable with the steering turned down to compensate, the prob lies that if i have to do a chicane monouveure the back end will let go and result in a slide and lost time.
I changed the tyres to yellow mini spikes which improoved the stability and rear end, however it didnt quite turn in enough. I also found that the tyres are wearing out very fast.
I have tried to trim the mini pins down a little ( the inner and outside pins removed) and will re try this coming weekend.
However any advice is greatly appreciated.
PS - I notice that the yellow compound mini pins seems a different compund as opposed to the yellow mini spikes. The pins seem a lot more stiffer - esp the side wall. THey remind me of the old blue compounds that we used to use years ago. - ANy thoughts.

the compounds CAN be different even in the same packet!!!! but the harder tyre comes from the thicker carcass and sidewall on the pins. they are generally the same rubber.

Try using a longer rear camber link

The outer pins if you look actually curve round a lot and so trimming the outer ones can stop the car wanting to grip roll but don’t really take away much steering, you might need to trim further in which there is nothing wrong with. I made the A at the indoor finals the other year and had the 3 outer and 2 inner rows trimmed off. If the car jumps well and is balanced then trimming out the ‘extra’ pins is a good thing to do, remember that there is just an arbitrary number of pins on the front tyre, not some scientifically worked out perfect number.

Put a BIG wing on the back, flic-flac loose rears are normall with some kind of speed, add something like a Yokomo BX rear wing with a full gurney flap on it, this will definately help

Try taking off the rear anti-roll bar. It gets the rear end a lot more hooked up, but the car is less responsive.

You could also raise the rear inner ball stud.

Hey Col,
Check the left to right balance is equal on your shocks and camber settings, also check the lengths of shocks are all equal left-to-right cos this can do bizarre things.
Next step, go back to basics, set the car up on a general 'known to be good' setup and see how if it improves. I know at your club, you have big Baz Weldon, Paul Rother-ham (he loves the H's) and Chris Evison who will be able to help you well first hand (i.e. witnessing your problem)

Hmm lots of advice given thanks, much appreciated.
Mext time racing,i will spend a little more time experimenting.
I'll post back what results made the biggest difference, perhaps what i find with my car may also help other lazer owners.

Give me your full set up and i'll let you know whats going wrong, and then hopefully make it right.
My BJ4 was flying last sunday, no trouble with grip either end.
I'm definatly sure the centre one way wont work as well in formby, Dan webster was running one and his car (zx5) wasnt consistant. I had the front one way diff and the car was amazing, i've not liked one ways before but it just felt 'right' in formby, lots of on power steerring and off power cornering.
I used to run full 4wd, and i'm convinced that was probably better than having the centre one way.

You forgot to mention how technical the track at formby is, some of the advise given previously are for multisurface tracks like batley, and york.. formby is 100% carpet and very technical on clubdays
This shall however be changed on January 14th at the NW indoor gp [plug plug] :D

Yeah i noticed that dan was struggling as well, i dont think im up this weekend racing, but shall hopefully be up the week after.
I'll charge up some spare cells, and you can have a good blast with it as well.
Cheers Paul much appreciated.
