dex210 glueing tyres - aaagh!

Hi all.

I've just built my new dex210v2 and got to the point where I needed to fit the foams and glue the tyres.
I had no problem with the rears. The fronts I found very challenging though - I got the foams in fine but even warming the tyres in hot water to make them more malleable I struggled getting the tyres on the wheels. Finally on peeling the edges back to drop glue in was tricky and getting the tyres back down in the right place before the glue set was tough.
To sum up I've got front tyres that are not evenly seated all around and I think the foam might have been messed up inside in the process of getting the tyres on !
If I spin the wheel I can see its not seated evenly and is not balanced.

Any tips?
Can you buy the durango wheels anywhere with pre fitted/glued tyres?
I can't find any from searching.

From the "show us your durango" thread I see some with white wheels which I suspect are not durango? But other makes fit differently.

Any tips welcome.

I could always remove and try to refit, tips for that?

im guessing you may need to start again by the sounds of it... go to the local chemist buy a bottle of acetone.... stick the wheels in a food container ( type where the lid seals well ) pour in a bit of acetone ( and dont breath it in ! ) seal lid shake it up and leave for a couple days.... glue should pretty much dissolve and you can clean up the wheels etc and start again...... i think some people use a load more acetone and dunk them in but ive found it works this way. the model shops sell rubber bands you can buy to hold the tyre rubber down evenly all the way round. also ive been using cheap pound shop glue thats a bit too thick it works but you have to take a bit more care when doing it...( having said that i lost a tyre on sunday! :thumbdown: )the proper glue is much thinner and easier to apply.

Do you race a durango? Its the Schumacher U6592 Stagger Rib - Yellow - Slim tyres that I was trying to fit. I have now seen a brief reference in a forum to having to cut them/trim in some way. Can't see any mention anywhere else though.

Anyone add anything else?

On the original DEX210 I cut the wheels down to use those tyres, no idea if the V2 wheels are different. Don't think you need foam iserts with these either but I am sure someone that uses them regularly will confirm / dent this

Quite a number of the schumacher fronts need the wheels trimming, and I don't bother with inserts.
I reckon some of then are actually 2", not 2.2".....

With those tires you need no insert or glue, just slap them on and run them

i just have the standard durango wheels and put schuie low profile cut staggers on the front....was told not to use inserts so i dont.....

the i trimmed the inside edge off the wheel all the way round down to the next rib that circles the wheel ( but dont cut that rib off ) the tyre then sits nicely upto it. some people ive seen just leave it as is and you can see the inside edge of the plastic wheel exposed where the tyre doesnt cover it..... dont know whats best but i think it looks better neatly trimmed down.

symanski, thanks. Do you mean trim the wheel or tyre? Yep, mine are like that, the rears the tyre sits flush to the wheel plastic, the fronts it does not. Did you mean trim the inside of the tyre so it sits flush to the wheel?

Have you a close up photo you could share?
Aha, maybe not using inserts would help a lot too. I feel two new wheels and tyres coming on at some point !

yep trim the wheel and not the tyre! pics show one wheel trimmed with tyre and one wheel trimmed without tyre ( apart from a bit of tyre ive not managed to remove yet)

When you put the tyres on the rim I would glue the outside edge. Not as someone earlier suggested and not glue them at all,they will come off at some point if you don't. And that's never a good thing if your in the middle of a race:woot:
As for acetone,you can get it from the pound shop. And it's pure acetone as well not watered down like some nail polish remover. I use this for mine and it's excellent. Just a little in the bottom and as was said in in another post,I don't
