Hi,
I have been organizing an indoor 'Christmas special' race in an indoor equestrian centre just north of Newcastle. The event will take place on Sat the 20th of December and is open to all electric 1/10 scale buggys. You can book in on the website, or if your a gambling man then pay on the day however there will be a limited number of places and it will be strictly first come first serve. Check out the site @
http://www.indoorspecial.tk/

Please feel free to ask any questions and I'l endeavor to answer them!

Vital information from the events info page:
You may still race but will not be counted unless you have your own Personal Transponder!

Unfortunately I don't have the facility for any 'borrowed' transponders, however I will make enquiries to see if I can get hold of some for the event!

is this the Big Green Building? (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=55.120125,-1.663495&sll=54.871076,-1.472168&sspn=0.538134,1.208496&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=16&g=55.120125,-1.663495&iwloc=addr) venue

The arena surface is a state of the art high grip loose rubber and sand composite which leaves cars perfectly clean and simulates 'dirt' most tyres seem to work quite well

which tyres have been tested?

hazzelarator
24-11-2008, 09:21 PM
Yea something like that, lol

I've run on mini pins, the old schumacher cat spikes and the rounder schumacher spikes. To be honest doesnt seem to be a load of difference. Even blue compound ones seem to get plenty of grip. We also have now been lent some 'borrow' transponders for those who are too stingy to buy a PT ; )

'Might' be able to make it.

About transponders. Ok, there £60 which is expensive, but its not that im to stingy to buy one, just i dont trust them, if it fails then i dont get my run, if a club bug fails then i have a leg to stand on, providing someones watching the race.

Hey guys - when you see a " ; ) " it's a smiley that didn't come out right, it means a wink with a smile - i.e. he's only joking.

And he has made the effort, and succeeded, to get 'handouts' for those in need. :)

fair do's..to be honest i was put off in the first place by having to have a PT to get your laps counted which would have been pointless if you never had one but maybe now there are handouts its worth looking into.:)

this looks a good venue, first time I've seen this thread as I've been on holiday. Are you going to create jumps from the surface (dig it up I mean) or add them on top from wood etc??
is it a loose surface? it doesn't look like something that packs down but it's hard to tell from the photos.

hazzelarator
12-12-2008, 03:11 PM
Jump wise, unfortunately the surface is supposed to be level so I cannot dig it up much, I'm going to make some woops etc by piling loose dirt over pipe sections, but the jumpe will be made from wood other than that. I like big jumps so hope your up for some air time?

Just checked my route to venue from Teesside and I'm allowing 15mins extra to get past the Metro Centre due xmas shoppers http://www.oople.com/forums/images/icons/icon13.gif

Other route used the Tyne Tunnel / A19 north which I guess would be just as busy.

A19 - Tyne tunnel is a better route from yours glenn. And there will be less traffic than passing team valley & metro centre on the A1.

I've built the track now and i'm relatively happy with the layout, just needs some work on rhythme section and a few of the jumps, has a bit of everything some real quik corners tight and twisty technical bits and some medium speed bends too.

Ideas please, I was having a think, at the end of the night would everyone be interested in doing some sort of tag team endurance race? 30 mins long with 3 car teams each car has to do a minimum of 5 laps but after that its open to who wants to do more laps? Just an idea may be a bit of fun.

Thanks for something different to race on & in http://www.oople.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

Indoors with an outdoor temp @ 7.5c and no wind chill so it was warm http://www.oople.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

Took a few pics from the event on compact camera which can be seen here (http://vmphoto.photobox.co.uk/slideshow?album_id=87251236)

Rims on the 4wd rears filled with dirt which flicked out easily without leaving anything in the rim. What ever got into the chassis also came out easily with a brush. Pic with receiver & dirt is before I covered the front shell vent holes.

Tyres
Would look like Sch Yellows were the tyre to have coming of clean after a 5 min heat. 2wd using kit ribs front rather than Sch spikes but Sch Yellow on the rear.

Kit AE 4wd tyres clogged up to easliy so know one used them. Some other clay tyres may work that have a more open pattern to the thread

Just to let everybody know how it went last night.
The venue was awesome. 1st time i have raced on a surface like this and struggled with my only decent set of tyres,Green spikes on 2WD and balding yellows in 4wd.
After a few runs the line started to clear but didnt groove(not exactly sure what groove is but im guessing!) When you went off line you paid for it but it did make racing very realistic. I was having a battle with Kash Khan in 1 of my runs and i went tight 1 corner and off line then he came back because he was on the original line.Excellent fun.
I changed a few bits on the Cat and found after placing a lead sheet under my Li-po the car was miles better(still on the yellows)
2wd was a lot harder because as the night went on the temp dropped inside and the Greens that i was runing were useless. I changed to yellows on the rear and got some yellow fronts from Chappell but the car was so different i struggled.
Ribs on the front of the B4 seemed to be the order of the night.
Im sure Glenn managed to get some footage of my Cat going round so i hope he edits it well!!
I need a dirt expert to recommend some tyres that could work on the soft but fairly loose surface.
Finally, just a quick thanks from me to all that helped to run the meeting. Phill Mc and Bill on race control and Longbenton for BBK timing gear and track and mostly all to Harry who supplied the venue and set up track etc.
Bring on the next one!

yeah i pretty enjoyed it last night

at first i use the front green spike on my x6 some how i couldn't get the better grip
so i spoken to jame as he got the proline rib tyre on his b4 front so i changed my front tyres proline rib on x6 and make alot different with average time from 28 sec to 23 sec which massive improvement using those rib tyres and yellow spike on back

even tho the x6's bottom chassis cracked due the jump which it land badly in practice warm up but managed to superglue it up and ran the whole race 5 or 6 heat and final !

The cat looks like its going well. It was miles better when i stuck some lead in it and had a word in its ear that it was going the distance if it didnt behave itself!
Looking forward to the next one as long as i get some tyres that will work well. Im on the trail already.

To look pretty!

It's actually a drag car, quite a serious bit of kit when I looked at it. Though I was surprised to see the exhaust system in bits where the passsenger seat should have been, at first I thought it was the most unhealthy car in the world, zero-to-death in 11 seconds.

Glenn, why are your videos so short?

digi cam, not sure how much I can get on an 8gb card, and only to get a flavour of the venue, grip, surface etc and the need to prep car between rounds

hope 'Harry the Hazard' aka hazzelarator, gets it on again and I'll be there again if work permits
