Ain't so bad & I will be attending all as usual, in terms of distance driving its seems okay for all. It'll be a year of Minispikes too I expect, it'll be interesting to see which and how it is worded - we now have new/old Schumacher Minispikes, new/old Ballistic Spikes, GRP.

What happens with tires, do the tracks decide? If so do we find out when the entry forms, which is Jan isn't it?
Asking as I have some minispike 1's sat about and deciding whether to save them or not!

I'm gonna poke the hornets nest... I love Charlies angry face :woot:
I'm a bit surprised Coventry have not got anything, I'm sure there's a good reason, just seems odd as they seem to have put on 2 EOS finals that were highly regarded.
That apart I saw the list of applicants and I would say 7 out of the 8 tracks are spot on.
I cant grumble with those choices of tracks, southport, stotfold, eden park and blyth are all wicked off road tracks, and talywain and oz have good bars

It was the musclyest (if thats a word) guy in the bar, and i thought it was one of our group drinking it when i shouted "what homo is drinking that: then i saw an arm as thick as my leg reach for it and northy's and jims face were a picture, the colour just drained from them, and i thought i have 2 ways to go here
1) i abuse him and make him laugh, possibly get battered.
2) say sorry, look like a cock and possibly get battered.
Luckily i chose option one, abused him and he shook my hand
Northy and jim then went to change their pants

even bambi has enemys so im really not botherd if people dont like the track long as you have fun on the day and leave me alone once racing has started.
oh and dont start on the double it was shit - end off, and it got borke at the 8th nat so dont worry that fookers gone. and so did the carpet section- that was gay going the other way over.

Maybe i shouldnt have said anything. But im fed up of going to track that i know im not going to enjoy. Why waste the money! Its nothing personal to all involved i understand you put in a hell of a lot of work and you cant keep everyone happy. But i know im not the only one that says the same thing every year.
I could probably name 10 tracks that have had nationals some are included in this year selection, but there are several that are not and im sure they still have the facilities maybe its just the other stuff thats involved that stops them from asking for a national.
Like i said before i am allowed an opinion, i will probably attend all the events this year but only because of commitments etc, not becasue i know im going to enjoy myself. Just have to make sure the bar is WELL stocked this year :)
p.s i also understand we have to have new tracks added to our events as thats the only way that things will get better, but they should have to prove themselves against more proven places before being used.
just make sure you have finished cutting the grass before you start drinking mate :woot:

haha, wondered if someone would mention that. I just hope the clubs realise the grass NEEDS TO BE SHORT.......... otherwise the racing is pointless!
If you need to ask is that short enough then the answer is probably "NO, half that and then we'll be ok."

Why? If we can't speak out, then the critisms don't get heard and the club repeats the stuff. Speaking out gives them chance to listen. Listening is good, showing they are listening is even better.
Don't be so negative, turn these points into positives by reacting to them.

ive said in my post that yeah some things at tally where shit, and id like to think the track will be better, and i do look at the negatives as positives to spur me on and make it better in 09

Im sure all realise that those who struggled to see/judge parts of the track, that the distance was due to the amount of rain in the week before and the ground in front of the rostrum was unsuitable as it was boggy and holding water.... it was one of those things. For me that was unfortunate, out of the clubs control, and along with the lottery of landing the jumps made for a difficult track.... perhaps those jumps would have been easier if it wasn't for the approach being hard to see/judge. But the club did make the best from the situation that week.

The distance was not the best, and it would have been nice to keep things closer with out the huge no mans land but we had to do what we did, fingers crossed for next time with the weather.
I know the jumps where gay on the landing (the double now yeah?) Personally I liked the table tops we had and id likes to have two more for next year instead of the double in the middle- first ive heard on the approch being hard to see? there was a jump further away in the left hand side are you on about this one? , all the jumps where at angle so you could see the up and down ramps.

Having Tally track using more of the natural banking would be cool, but i guess that would become a marshalling hazzard?
I was there putting the track out, and lets just say, some features were 'changed' by the likes of PW, and not for the better I think.
In the end, the weather had been so bad that week, you were lucky to get a track at all, but I think that the guys doing the track will know, and being Chris's dad is right in the middle of the people doing the event, things WILL get done.

In response to the idea that whining about tracks is futile, I would like to say the following:
We (Southport) were given some "pointers" by the BRCA officials after the Southport National last year with regard to the track (s) that we had laid out.
Some of the points raised were actually changes/features/items that we wanted to incorporate before the national, but simply ran out of time. The other "suggestions" were just ideas. We will take on board some of the criticism levelled to the BRCA by drivers at the Southport National (why they couldn't be mentioned to any of the SRCC organisation team present is beyond me), and some of those "suggestions" will be incorporated into this years track....others won't be, but hey, that's life! (so if you don't like the track you only have yourselves to blame )
Danny McGee
02-12-2008, 05:54 PM
blame? am i to blame if the track is simply un-inspiring to drive around? As far as im concerned im driving 100% only to find im on for a B/C time. Great fun!!!
Ive raced at some dire places before now but ive always tried to give some advice (if i feel it will be recieved as advice and not crisitm) some people take it on board some dont. I think Talli did a bloody good job with what the gods gave them the week/night prior.
Im not gonna post anymore because i dont want anyone to think im having a go at club in particular. Like has been said, you cant keep everyone happy. Just seems (from who i talk to) each year there are more folks that agree with me :D
Anyway, good luck to the guys and girls that do the tracks this year. (mwah) ;)

To be fair, there are only so many options, and to a point sometimes the venues do pick themselves - based on issues with other venues maybe.
A lot of the points Danny makes are valid. I don't agree with all of them, but some of them, yeah for sure i do - and even the others, are his opinions, which one way or another we're all entitled to.
If people believe that the same things are being said every year, maybe that's because it's true. In which case, the people making those points probably believe that nothing is changing and it's the same every year.
Northy
02-12-2008, 06:15 PM
I'm with Matt here, a venue ca only be chosen if it actually applied in the first place. There are also more things to be considered than just 'the track' odd as it might sound to some people.

02-12-2008, 06:20 PM
Well if some of these tracks that you guys dont like didnt apply then maybe there wouldnt be enough tracks to complete a full national calender meaning there would be no nationals at all. I know Ozfest isnt everyone favriot track but we are trying and improving but we also the the facilities that other tracks dont have. Also please keep in mind that we cant do anythign major to the track as its simply not our land to mess with.

02-12-2008, 06:46 PM
Ok here is my 2 cents.
I think all of the tracks are getting better. people are trying to improve the facility and improve the racing!!!!
You can only learn by doing, and let's hope we have all learned from this year and it will be even better next year!!!!!
Of course I think EPR was the best!!!! Cause I painted most of it!!!! Lol, oh and we were very blessed with the weaher.
But also Tally, Oz, Stotfold and Southport all made huge efforts and it showed!!!!!!
So some jumps were not great and some grass too long and Southport is difficult for many of us, but it's the same track for all, and face it, most people have a bogey track. But still we turn up and try our best, oh and most important, have a good weekend.
So bring on 2009, there will no doubt be much improvement!!!!
Chrislong
02-12-2008, 11:11 PM
There were 10 applicating clubs for national events, correct me if im wrong, but isn't that a good number.
we also the the facilities that other tracks dont have.
A
You dont get this typing lark do you
I do think, that as long as it is constructive, nothing is bad, when people just say, a track is shite, and leave it at that, nobody has got anything to work from. I do now think, clubs realise there is a lot ot gain from improving tracks and facilities, so you come home, think, bloody hell, what a storming weekend, track was awesome, but in trying hard, mistakes can and will happen, it is human nature.
Just cast your minds back 10 years to the featurless grass tracks...... I think off-road is going into a boom, lets not pop the bubble but being negative, if you got an issue with a track, think, then post what would of been better..... but bear in mind, that sometimes the track get's changed by the BRCA to.

joking aside im looking forward to this year, the comments from last year have been taken on board. i liked the tabletop sections found the double very random as has already been said by others and hopefully this year the weather will be more friendly to talyfest so they can built the track they want to build rather than around the lake like they had to lol.either way it will be the same for everyone.
perhaps someone should do a jump thread if they are that worried about it to give host clubs ideas on what people want rather than to leave them guessing. but please leave in the hump to tabletops as they were awsome IMHO ;)

sorry, but any track can be good.... i dont care if its pure lush australian clay or grass, the designer can make the track good! jumps made correctly, in the right places, flowing sections. tight sections, contrasts, rythem etc etc etc........
So i will continue to say that the designers of the track may need help and input, maybe even just to get a drawing on paper.
I think millzy did the right thing last year, he asked advise on track/jump design and although they didnt work to well in the end the thought was there....with a little more guidance it coud have been a blinder.
so please if your designing the track and not to stubern to ask.....do so! many drivers in the UK have travelled the world racing, including myself and feel this is where the experiance comes from with regards to good track designs.
Maybe a track design commity? hahahah!!!

No really
The straight will be the other side of the track - at the back running from the down banking into the mound at the left.
Two table tops in an S section after the straight- like in 08 at an angle and about the same height
There will be a bigger table top in front of the rostrum with a longer down ramp than up ramp
I’d also like to have 2 rhythm sections with 4 short whoops running vertical towards the rostrum and one with 3 long whoops running horizontal along the straight
but I’m not sure on this as we did two small whoops under the carpet in 08 and they where ok in 2wd but crap in 4wd, id like to do the 09 whoops all the same height as is other instead of one big one small like last time
I’m not going for huge air in 09, I learnt my lesson with the double and triple - but we will see what happens all this is on paper and the club needs to meet up and discus a few ideas first before we can start building jumps and layouts
**********************please dont take this post as what the track will look like *********************88
