Hi all,
I've dug out my old Sanwa Exzes 40MHz transmitter.
I'm wanting to know if it is possible to upgrade it to a 2.4GHz system, I've seen people replacing the module in the back but not sure how viable this is, or is it just worth getting a new modern transmitter/reciever?

Why bother - most people run 2.4 so you'll never clash.

That is something else I was thinking, I'm guessing that besides the possibility of having to change crystals, there is no other real benefit of moving to 2.4GHz?

Look at the Frsky conversions on the electrics thread as this has been done. Ive done the first conversion on an exerd and works really well, plus a lot cheaper than buying a new transmitter. Advantages, tiny receiver and aerial, ting transmitter aerial, zero interferance.

and comes with a receiver.
Yep, my mate bought a set 18 months ago with a spare RX, he's never had an issue and the spare is still unused.
I've just order one with 4 spare RX's, 5 in total :), I will have a module with 4 RX's for sale soon :)

I ended up picking up a a Code 2.4Ghz system, the one with the lcd display when I thought my old Sanwa Exzes was faulty.
Turns out my old Sanwa is fine but think I'll still use the Code due to being 2.4Ghz, that and the reduction in the size of the Code receiver will seriously help with space in my YZ-2. Also having a instruction manual for the Code will also help.
Looking at the specification the Code seems just as capable if not more than my old Sanwa, the improvement in technology and price looks to make an entry level transmitter the same level of what I remember being a good transmitter 15yrs ago.
Should get me up and running, I can always look at upgrading in the future should I feel the need.
