Electrical Problem

Had an issue yesterday, my car cut out in rounds 2 and 3 after about 3 1/2 minutes. After round 3 I found the connector inside the TP 3200 Saddle for the -ve (not to the esc) had moved and melted the casing. Will try and get pics later!

Anyway, I've been trying to work out the cause (the round 2 one also did the same to my other Lipo but less severly). I was using Lrp motors and esc and they could well have been very hot (was running a 4.5 as my other motors are knackered or in other cars!), but would they ever heat the cell that much before just thermalling? Or would they thermal before this point?

The connector which goes into this female connector was in a state afterwards, so the alternative is if may have been a shonky connection that was arcing or something?

Any thoughts on what would overheat a battery like hhis much appreciated, I don't think it's a TP issue, but if I can find the cause can hopefully avoid repeats!

Sounds to me like the male connector going into the female wasn't making a perfect connection, causing a higher resistance in the connection than normal.

This means that more current will be drawn through it regardless of what you motor and ESC is doing, consequently the temperature around the connection point increase to the stage where it melts the plastic.

I know this has happened before to others that have been running the Corraly style 4mm plugs and TP LiPo.

How tight did your connectors feel? Mine always feel tight on my TP4900, requiring a decent push. I would have thought they'd need to be pretty loose for you to have problems with them heating up, but this problem does seem to come up quite a bit.

Yeah, it was fine that morning but thinking maybe the male got squashed at some point without me realising, and made a duff connection.

Bit of a bugger, don't feel safe reusing the battery and no idea if/what Lipo saddles will be legal to get a replacement!

The pack could be fine but I would just use it as a practice only pack at least the hard case will have done some protective work :)

had the same issue myself. have sent the pack back to track power and got a replacement. without issue. take it back to where u got it dave as they will sort it
