A few weeks ago I managed to find the official Hobao brushless kit for my boys Hyper Mini ST, so I fitted it and chucked in the spare 45amp ESC and 12T Sensorless motor we had upgraded his race car from. All seemed OK with fair speed (nothing fantastic though) until the weekend when we ran it on a field and after about 5 minutes he complained of stuttering and cogging, sure enough it was so I checked the motor and it was too hot to touch. The little 380 rotor in a 540 can obviously can't handle the weight of the heavy truggy (1.5kg without cells).
Today I swapped the 13.5T trackstar motor and Tamiya TBLE02S ESC from my Neo Scorcher into it (I took the other kit for the lightweight Neoscorcher basher and it flies) but the speed is woeful. Now I after about 7-8 mins on grass the motor was OK to touch and so was the ESC so I'm wondering if a large jump in pinion could be done (going from the current 15T to 19T)?
Or is the 13.5T too small and should I just got for a 80amp and 6.5T or something? Don't want to spend the £45 or so for the new ESC and motor if we can get fair results out of the pinion change.
Anyone used anything similar and can recommend anything? Were not racing it, just bashing this one.
Carl.
