Got a question...
What's the worst that could happen if you left the sensor wire out of the speedo when turning the car on and giving it full throttle on the transmitter? (motor is wired up, but sensor wire is not connected to the speedo)
Cheers:)

Seriously though, i just think it wouldn't rev properly.

Depends on the ESC, I've heard from guys that run LRP without the sensor cable the ESC thinks it's in brushed mode which is obviously a bad thing, but I've never been able to prove that theory.
ESC's like the Speed Passion run sensored and sensorless, so it would be a bit rough on the start but it would run no problem.

well, i just revved my car, whilst not realising the sensor wire wasn't connected to the speedo. The motor squealed like a pig, then smoke came out of it and is now dead
I've never seen that before :o

Hi mate, I can tell you that I have just had this happen at worksop last month. Same as you, I accidentally left the sensor wire out of the motor, switched and it smoked then dead as a dodo. :cry:Unfortunately, changing the sensor wire does not work. what happens is the speedo 'looks' for the orientation of the motor, does not find it, and goes mental. Its not even a repair jobby, if you have the receipt though, I got a replacement unit, (just don't say you left the sensor wire out), Kevan
looks like your esc isn't a hybrid or sensorless ESC, so it would be thinking the rotor isn't turning, so whacked in more power on a dead phase, so the rotor wouldn't turn, bit like cranking the timing way up. Is the ESC ok?

Thats a bit dodgey isnt it? GTB's just dont do anything if its in BL mode and has the sensor unplugged.

Its fine aslong as you dont rev the throttle.

it's an LRP TC speedo, and a Novak motor.
The speedo seems to be fine though, it's just the motor that's had a flid.
Not sure if this is coincidence, but when running the motor on the sunday before this happened, it felt so much quicker than it should be
not got the timing cranked up on the motor accidentally?
