I've never had an issue with the bearings on my YZ-2 until yesterday's 2WD North East regional. Towards the end of practice I noticed the steering was very vague. I pulled the car off to find one of the bearings in the steering centre link had vanished and the screw had come undone. Luckily I was very kindly lent one otherwise it would have been a disaster. Anyway I've just taken the steering linkage in bits to find the bearing at the bottom of the bell crank has also disintegrated.

I've seen Avid do a complete sealed bearing kit. Has anyone used them as I'm going to replace them all?

Just checked mine and they are not collapsed, but well worn. Just had them on the bearing sizer and they are notchy and the top ones have loads of play. Just pushed one out and it had collapsed really easily.
I think that's caused the play I've noticed the last two meetings.
I had the larger size collapse on the steering posts of bmax4 though.

Posts bearing size is 5x8x2.5mm.
Crank side size is 3x7x3mm

Correction: The BMAX4iii steering posts are 8x4x2.5mm, not 8x5x2.5mm as in YZ-2.

Yikes, ill have to have a look at mine, steering still feels nice and smooth, but it is a tight tolerance slipping them over the posts.

Mine were ok last time I checked, which is regularly due to lovely soaking wet grass at regionals.

I will give them another check however as I have them here to be replaced anyway so might just do it.

I bought the Avid pack just to discover these 4 bearings were missing. I informed them though and they are now present! Can't fault the Avid bearings, real good quality.

I had the exact same bearing failure as you had.

I hope they are in the Avid pack as I've just ordered some.

http://www.avidrc.com/flexkit/?kit=1381&kitname=YZ-2
This seems to show them in there.
Only ones not in there are the ball diff bearings, as they are extras from the kit.

Just come to fit the new Avid bearing kit and guess what....it's missing the 4 x 5x8 bearings I need which slot into the bellcrank.

How did you contact Avid or did you go through the retailer?

Bummer Jim.

On another note with avid products, I had three of the diff thrust race kits, and none of them contained a pair of the correct sized plates to work with the yokomo diff.

Go to your local hardware store, buy some correct size bearings and you are good to go. A lot cheaper too. And they are the same as Avid and all those other bearing company stuff.

Just spoke to Ross at MB Models and he's sending me the missing bearings out today. Fingers crossed they arrive tomorrow so I can race Friday night and Sunday

That's good news mate. I meant to add to my post that the stock MB had were probably missing them still as I only replaced mine a couple of months back.

I had the exact same bearing failure as you had.

Me too... you can just buy the bearings from MB - £1.50 a pair.

If you bought them from MB, give them a call in the morning and they'll send you some out.

I've bought bearings from their Keighley branch before for motorcycles but I've found them to be very expensive.

I've ordered some from China so next time I should be covered.

Expensive but probably a much better quality.
