whats the format? one car, or full team of cars/drivers?

Chrislong
19-12-2008, 09:23 AM
I am pretty sure it is 1 car mate, im sure G will confirm.

I'll be there - sleeping bag n'all. I recommend lots of Pro-plus, and perhaps arrange a lift home as id hate for anyone to fall asleep at the wheel and crash.

Are we allowed to drink alcohol while participating? :)

The rules are on the entry form which is linked in the news item above. It is indeed one car for the whole team.

Lee

I think it states in the rules that you have too !

You could try an X6 chris :D

Chris Doughty
19-12-2008, 10:42 AM
as long as its got plenty of blue stuff in it its a possibility...

its going to be impossible to get a team of enough people all pleasing their own sponsors/supporters so I guess exceptions could be made...

anyone from Wales fancy it ???

I think pretty much all of Xfactory UK use LRP products. I think its only Dan and Tom who are novak but hopefully extra stickers can be applied for their sponsors. :D

it would be waaay cool if the team shell had bits of everyone's own body on it, kinda like a mash-up of peoples colours/designs :woot:

Lee
19-12-2008, 12:02 PM
that would be very cool

a bit like the colin edwards bike (i think) that had peoples names all over it

IceMike
19-12-2008, 12:04 PM
still time for someone to do a paintjob :P an anyways cant u change the shell, it only said that the chassis must be the same, said nothing about the shell

Chris Doughty
19-12-2008, 12:22 PM
no way, its got to be a one-off shell for the event, that would be ace!

IceMike
19-12-2008, 12:27 PM
haha i wonder if team oople is attending :p and how many gb of photos an stuff will be taken for those of us that wont be attendin :p

Chrislong

Team Schumacher could do a one off shell spray job, then auction it off. Should fetch some good money being the winners shell n'all ;) ;) ;)

Chris Doughty
19-12-2008, 02:03 PM
now there is an idea...

the teams shells are signed by the team members and auctioned off for charity! (if they wish to do so)

Billthemina

Team Teeside, YEAH?!

this should be epic!

i like the shell idea too! :o

Nah, it'll just be a case of replacing bearing, outdrives, O-rings and shock shafts. I bet the car is suprisingly in good condition still after this - you ought to run my old X-5 mate, its been through worse.

Lee
19-12-2008, 03:37 PM

IceMike
19-12-2008, 03:39 PM
i wouldnt even attempt it with an old car, less chance sumat odd is gunna break, like the rule with the martial though that will be interesting. and the wheole starting the car where it stops is kewl, i would be interested to see how taht is enforced though. and also wot sort setups the teams use, the slow an steady approch or putting a faster motor in.

Can u change the motors and things through the race?? i guess that u can do wotever u want to the car really

MRD
19-12-2008, 04:08 PM
Can a windows PC do a whole 24h without crashing .

I'd love to do it but I'd only feel comfortable thrashing my own car.

Chrislong
19-12-2008, 04:08 PM

Have to allow for anything breaking - as we know, it can. Its going to be a race not just won on the track, but won with reliability and faster wrenchers.

What does EBOR stand for?

Darren Boyle
19-12-2008, 11:30 PM
Our very own Donisthorpe used to run a 24hour race annually many years ago, which was outside on the grass. We did it one year as a team from our local Watford Club, and it was fantastic, we used an old Traxxas TRX-1 with Demon 1400 SCR's, Demon 17 turn motors and a good old trusty Speedmaster ESC.. Came 6th out of 9 teams too, including the famous Schumacher works team (with their Procat)!!!!

What does EBOR stand for?

Eboracum was a fort (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castra) and city (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City) in Roman Britain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Britain). Today it is known as York (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/York)

Think Teesside have pretty much sorted a team :)

Plus we worked out on needing about 20 sets of tires :o And if all the wheels are bought new that comes to something not much short of £600 :o:o

I'm glad you guys are loving the idea of this - trust me it has taken a lot of planning to get to this point

If you really do want to do this event then please email your intention to Derek (his email address is on the entry form), we can not run the event with less than 7 teams, but we are also limiting it to 12 maximum.

I've been wanting to do this for a few years now, and this year people finally gave in and said yes :)

As Jimmy says, we'd like to make this an annual event if possible.

Also, if your coming to race you might just end up on TV ;););)

I have just been putting forward the things we need to get a team going for this and WOW. This is going to be very expensive! Tyre wise, if a mini pin lasts about 40 mins of track time then u need about 40 plus pairs. If ur doing 2wd u could get away with half that for the front. 4wd is the same as rears. If your not Schumacher sponsored then its going to be a dear do. Just a thought.

Northy
06-01-2009, 12:11 PM
Stu, even us 'Schumacher sponsored' drivers are not planning on using that many pairs of tyres :bored:

Remember the costs are split between ALL the drivers, and for the amount of track time you get is cheaper than normal I would say ;)

G

super__dan
06-01-2009, 12:43 PM
Is there an official 2wd/4wd differentiation/class or just all same?

Chris Doughty
06-01-2009, 12:58 PM
personally I would like to see 2WD and 4WD 'winners'

but also the full event winner.

Just like LeMans has LMP1, LMP2, GT and GT2

Lee
06-01-2009, 02:01 PM
Northy, can we have clarification on the term "the same chassis must be used" is this classed as the car or the actual chassis plate or tub.

For example: the cat chassis can be removed with 10 screws and bolted onto another 95% pre-built car, You are still technically using the same chassis.

I would like to avoid this scenario and have to replace parts on the 'car'.

Also how much are we allowed to have pre built, for example, can we have a b4/x6 front end ready to bolt on, and gear boxes made up etc or is it a case of having to replace the individual parts at the time, right down to diff balls if needed.

Hopefully by clarifying these points everyone should be on a level playing field :D

Bradders

Also how much are we allowed to have pre built, for example, can we have a b4/x6 front end ready to bolt on, and gear boxes made up etc

I was presuming we'd be able to do what we want with every bit of the car except the chassis itself (just like euros etc) I hope so anyway, it'd be way easier.

I'm with G on the tyre issue. Surely everyone is gonna be using less tyres in proportion to the amount of track time you normally get. An hour on a set is easily done...

super__dan

Bradders, is there going to be an AE/CML team, if so running 2wd or 4wd?

Bradders
06-01-2009, 04:51 PM
Yup! There'll be a CML team hopefully... just waiting on 1 driver then we're sorted. And it'll be 2wd, it's just so much simpler that way.... and, laying the gauntlet down here, we'll beat all the 4wd's anyway! :woot::p:woot:;)

Cue the banter.:D

I think the 2wds could pull it out of the bag, the transmission is bullet proof and they will probably do 3 packs of cells to 5 in a 4wd.

and we only have 2 outdrives to break

ITs ok for u mate, u dont pay. Every body in that case will need 24 pairs of rears at a cost of about £7 each which is about £168 and for 2wd front about £7 and about 12 pairs if that £84. total £252. Just for tyres.
But then again if you then split it down to 8 drivers it comes to £31 each for about 3 hours of driving each.
Can Schuy come up with the stock that we need?

06-01-2009, 07:58 PM
Maybe you could consider limiting the amount of tyres per team?

You know how you are going to mark up the chassis' during the few hours before we start? well could each team not present say 6 sets of tyres for a 2wd team, and maybe 8 to 10 pairs for a 4wd team or something like that? mark them up on the tyre wall and then these are checked during the day in the same way the chassis are... its up to the teams then how often they change tyres or whether they rotate them or save the majority of them for the last 6 hrs or whatever?

Its just a thought... if people are concerned about costs, its meant to be a fun event afterall and it would be the same for everyone then.

Chris Doughty
06-01-2009, 08:18 PM
yard has a point...

but same number for 2 or 4WD surely (if there are not seperate classes)

only the rears limited, no fool would run spanking fronts and worn rears?? - would they? :p

I like the idea though, brings a new element to the endurance

Northy
06-01-2009, 08:33 PM
Guys we have discussed the tyre thing, infact I wanted it myself but.....

1. We thought it would be hard to scrutineer.
2. This is supposed to be a fun event for charity.
3. We wanted to keep the number of rules to a minimum.
4. This is supposed to be a fun event for charity.
5. Every rule we have has to be scrutineered, therefore your car spends less time on the track.
6. This is supposed to be a fun event for charity.

6 out of the 8 on our team have some sort of a deal with Schumacher, but we are still paying for our tyres.

We are planning on running an hour on a set - we will get 3 1 hour stints each.

Is 3 sets of tyres per driver a lot for 3 hours racing? How many sets do people run at a National wich is 5 minutes racing :lol::lol: - get the joke? ;)

Surely a 2wd would need more tyres than a 4wd as a 4wd will stay a lot more competetive on slicks than a 2wd?

Anyway I'll be lashed for half of it so it won't matter (I won't really I'm only having a couple).

How about Team Shoestring?

- An old b4 or XXX roller
- 540 motor + standard speedo and servo
- Old Nimh cells only
- Using all the old part worn tires everyone has laying around
- Nothing new allowed

Total cost could come in under £100

There may be a funny laughing face at the end of that but there is no reason why that should not see a team to the end of the 24 hrs.

Be really good to see a local team do the 24hrs, especially a York team as it is at their venue.

It was a semi serious suggestion. In fact there is no reason why it shoud cost anything. But then who really wants to spent 24 hours plodding round the track knowing last place is a dead cert.

Just a clarification on something from the boss:

Batterys must be located in the position the manufacturer intended them to be.
You can only use a shell designed for the car you are running.

The intention of this rule is to stop people mounting lipos on the wing, top deck, outside of the shell etc..... :o

As long it is in the position intended, that is fine.

This rule actually slows down our battery changes anyway fellas ;)

so we are not allowed to run a shell with cut outs etc but we are allowed to use half a shell to aid with cooling?
And now we can use any form of battery retainer as long as the cells are roughly where the manufacturer intended ?

Lee, this is not supposed to complicate things, it is supposed to stop people hacking about perfectly good cars/chassis just for one event

G

Lee
12-01-2009, 07:54 PM
I understand that, but im sure you understand people can only take written rules as you perceive them. So we cant really say fit something as the manufacturers intend and actually mean, dont mount them on the wing.

Anyway, i think cells are the least of your worries, how quick are you at changing speedo's?

You are using NOvak aren't you

Cockerill
12-01-2009, 08:18 PM
I think people just need to realise the spirit of the race, its for charity! The club don't want people turning up with hacked up cars or one-off specials, but with cars that are in standard 'race trim', with minor mods to make things more reliable/stronger.

I'd also suggest people run a Lipo cut-off given the nature of the event.

Lee
12-01-2009, 08:41 PM
I agree with the lipo cut off, the cells are going to be abused as it is, we dont need to make things worse, can we please have this added G

that was ace, one of the things that made it absolutely hilarious was own-car mashalling, some proper comedy moments going on there, all adds to the good spirited banter...

Everyone laughing hard at the HPI being the first snapper - Karma is all I can say... we all paid the price.

Congrats team HPI, once they found their feet that was on fire, they pulled a massive amount back and then stretched a big way out front.

I still can't believe the pace and amount of 'good elbows' racing going on, everyone was committed  :woot:

I must also say, I thought the track was absolutely FANTASTIC!!

no big snapper jumps, but jumps that rewarded doing them 'right'

it was a brilliant rhythm track too, I recon I did ~450 laps on it and enjoyed every one of them
