Ok, seen as you've been helpful so far I've got a few questions about starting racing.
With a mates help I've now put together a basic 2wd buggy. Its a Tamiya with a stock motor at present as we thought we'd see whether I enjoy racing, and whether I'm any good before investing in anything better. (though I've an Orion 10x3 motor lined up for later). Before turning up, maybe at Batley I just have a few questions if you could help.
Are heats run in ability order? Do you have seperate stock classes or do all run together? How many battery packs would be needed minimum? Does anyone run anything other than Losi's or Associated B4's? Basically am I gonna be way out of my depth or do newbies turn regularly? How long do regular club meets last/. Do you get any praactice time before heats?
Ok, that'll do for now, hope you can help.
ta very much!

I cant help you with the batley persific questions but i would recomend having 3 to 4 batterys but you could manage with 2 at a push. You will also need diffrent frequany crystals a min of 3 is the general rule for most clubs but never having raced at batley im not sure if there rules differ. If you havent got enough crystals and want some advice on which crystals you will need i advise visiting your local model shop. I would also recomend some new tyres such as schumacher mini pins or mini spikes but im am not sure if these tyres will fit on tamiya wheels.
Hope i have helped a little

Ok, Firstly, don't worry about being new, you will very soon get used to it & we try to think we are quite a friendly buch:D
With a stock motor and 36 batteries 2 packs should be fine, even if you can't charge between heats you probably have enough capacity.
All heats run in ability order, but there are no classes for mod/std just a 2wd 4wd split (assuming enough numbers otherwise these would be mixed too).
Losi and Associated dominate the numbers in 2wd, but one or two people run different (eg schumacher, tamiya).
Crystals- do you use 40 fm or 27mhz?? although there are more to choose from on 40, its far more popular and you proably need 2 to 3 sets, on 27 you may be ok with just 1 or 2.
Tyres, Schumacher mini spikes in yellow are best for yourself, dont forget when ordering that 2wd use SLIM fronts:)
Practice- everyone who helps put out the track and pack away can practice before the racing starts, you just put a peg on the board for your crystal and thats it. Racing usually finshes by about 5 -5.30 for a normal club meet.
Hope that helps:)

You will also need a BRCA membership for insurance purposes.

You can race at batley witout brca membership, buy you can only do so a couple of times I beleive before you need to join. I think that is to encourage people to start racing.
(I could be entirely wrong, but thats how I remember it)

B*gger, took my car for its first run and cos I was a bit giddy I took it on a bmx track near work when it was still a tad damp. Thinhgs were goin groovy, car was better than I thought with stock everything but I got a bit excited on one of the jumps and lost it slightly sending the poor thing through a bit of a puddle. It ran fine for a min or 2 then suddenly stopped. I dont think the battery runs out that quick so I'm thinking I may have got a bit of water in the new esc or the receiver. I'll have to have a tinker later.
Any tips (apart from dont be so stupid and wait till its dry loose). :wtf:

Put your radio gear on the radiator and don't plug it back in until your sure its totally dry.

Thanks, I'll dry it out and try it again. Only got a few mins running but its enough to have enjoyed myself. I'll be back. You'll know me when I turn up at Batley, I'll be the one driving in zig zags laughing like a tube! :D
