View Full Version : KO Esprit 4 Issues???

Ok, so I have a really odd problem with my KO 4/413 receiver.....
I use it in my KF2 indoor without any issues weekly. (413 receiver, Sky RC speedo, TP motor, expert servo and MRT PT)
But when I ran it in my Tekno EB48, (411 receiver, HW Speedo, Tekin Motor, Savox servo, MRT PT) it's range was really poor, (Like 5 meters)
So I:
Swapped the receiver for another 411 that I know works fine - still the same
Fitted a brand new Tekin Speedo/motor - still the same
Tried the 413 receiver from my KF2 with the new speedo/motor - still the same
Disconnected the PR with all the new stuff fitted - still the same!!
I've now dropped in my old Universe 3 with a 409 receiver and its fine, so I have no idea whats going on... I have ruled out pretty much everything except the servo, but can't see how that would effect only one transmitter/receiver....
Any idea's? :mad::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Read the q and a on ko site and you will find one where it says the 411 is not recommended for off road and large tracks due to poor range

Is the white inner wire exposed. If it has snapped off this can course range issue's. It needs 15 to 20mm at the end. that go's for all coax ariels.

I've had some range issues outdoors also, had to bring my aerial further out the shell which is a bit annoying.

The Esprit IV instructions are very explicit, the receiver should be elevated from the chassis, especially if it is carbon fibre, the antenna should not contact the chassis, despite being a screened construction, be fully deployed vertically and positioned away from noise sources!
I must admit I was very surprised when I had my Esprit IV that the receiver should be so sensitive to installation and having believed that 2.4ghz were less prone to interference than the old 40 and 27mhz systems. I have never had any problems previously with Futaba 2.4ghz installations!

Cheers for the feedback all...
Just for info, in the hope I just have a bad tranny and this isn't a case of "they are all like that"
Mark: The range on the 413 is no better than the 411, when just 10 meters away both loose contact.
Paul: The coax is perfect, its basically brand new and I'm pretty careful not to snag them or even go round tight corners.
Allan: Its as far as it can come out of the shell on the 413
Xracer: Its on a steel chassis car, housed within a plastic case and the aerial is full extended vertically.
I ran my old Uni3/409 today outdoor's and had no issues at all, so at a bit of a loss why the new model would perform worse?

Some of them came with faulty aerials mate, I got mine replaced for free and it has worked better since. Couple of times my car has had the odd drop here or there but nothing major.

At what cost? My Spektrum DX4s has never missed a beat in 12months on the supplied AA batteries, I know KO will be at the forefront of tech but reliability should be as important, I'll hang on to my investment till these issues are resolved

@ Xracer/Mark - Correct... Alloy, not steel..
@ Beale - I wouldn't let my issues put you off, its an awesome bit of kit and I am sure its a simple fix.
@ Alan - cheers for the heads up, will drop an email over tomorrow to get it tested.
Tried it indoors tonight on my KF2 and had several drops, so think the tranny may be faulty. (plenty of others running the 4 with very similar installs and no issues at all.)
