loctite 243?

Anyone know if Loctite 243 (red) is appropriate for fixings on an RC car or too strong. Normally use it on brake disks bobbins on a real car, so wanted to check.

I only ever use blue, as do most others i see, not sure red will be appropriate if it holds too strongly.

Don't use red unless you don't want to undo the screw again.

I think it'll be too strong. You'll stand a good chance of rounding screws and bolt heads trying to get it undone. Better with the blue one (242?)

yep you definately won't want to use red on any screws you want to get out again, it sets like concrete! Blue is Better :D

Just because it's red doesn't mean it's strong, I have some 222 thats red (well pink) and that's weak stuff. The number means the most ;)

the blue "242" is the one to go with mate, i use it on all my cars especially on pred diff screws.

Agreed. I use 242 on stuff I don't want to fall in bits and 222 on stuff I just want to hold in a bit better.

All the 243 i've seen is blue and is blue on the loctite website?

242, 243 & 248 are all very similar in terms of holding strength, 243 & 248 can cope with a small amount of oil residue on the surface where as 242 requires clean surfaces to achieve maximum adhesion.

242 & 243 are both liquid where as 248 looks like a tube of prit-stick glue which can make it easier to apply

Now you mention it, it is blue. I think the packet was red and I went by that. So I can use it :)

Done some more digging. Seems loctite 243 replaces 242 anyway. Both medium strength.

I would use red loc-tite on a migrating dog bone pin. This is the only practical application I have found for this product. When the silver pin on your dog pin moves around I like to remove it, if possible and them coat the pin and dog bone end and press it back to centered. Remove the excess with a towel or rag and let it set for 24hrs. Do not use it on your engine mounts or blocks. A lot of fellas say not even to use the blue stuff. I think blue is fine intially but once you have some on the threads I do not reapply it. This is my two cents.
