DIRT - Help needed

Hey all,

Im trying to source some dirt/clay - Looking for 65% clay substance, hopefully red and 35% sand.

Does anyone have any ideas where i can obtain such dirt? All help appreciated!!!!

He knows where to get it from, some where in spain, but it is cheaper than getting it over here.

Lee, i'm still trying mate. I've contacted all my mx contacts to see what they can come up with too. How about getting in touch with the acu direct and see if they know of any material suppliers, could also try these?

It's more dirt based then Clay though isn't it??

What other sports use clay for a surface?? Anyone think of anything?!?!

the red sand they use for tennis courts is where i start.

when we first made oure clay track it was pure clay and hard to work with.
it looked like it came from the bottom of a lake that nasty type of stuff you
might step in when you go swiming in a lake :D

Look with peopel doing landscaping stuff get the pore gray clay some red sanr and
a cement blender?

It is nick but i think they'd most prob know where to get it as i have seen a more clay like surface used. You can email this guy, he may know where to get materials as he build uk tracks. Worth a try?

silly idea, but I would think a supplier would find it easier if you had a sample of what you wanted, jamjar full or something........

Go to your local quarry and ask there.

and find a construction company - something along the lines of lindumgroup or hanson, ask if they have any construction projects on clay land, sometimes they retain spoil for lanscaping, other times they just send it to landfil to layer the tips.

I reckon you'll need between 200-300tonnes, we have about that for sale at a friend of mines farm, for sale at £6 per tonne but delivery will cripple it down to you (its from a village called clayworth :lol: guess why its called that) i excavated a farm track for someone an this is the spoil.

You determine soil type with this triangle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SoilTextureTriangle.jpg , its a lab test to get the exact type though, so i guess you could get an identical copy of a US track if you could get hold of a sample, Harper Adams can do the test for you.

hmm well soil weighs about 35kg/cubic foot.. we took over 150t topsoil off a 80x60 shed we put up, wont your track be bigger? or u gonna have thinner clay?

Personally, I think 300tonnes is a conservative estimate!
Have you tried Jewsons or other builders supply merchants?

yeh, i work in the industry...its getting the right stuff thats hard........

also, purely educated guess here i think 300 is way to much..but well see!

You'd be surprised how much you need. If your going to go deep enough to be able to make all the features by just digging the amount will be huge.
