Hi Guys,

Sorry to jump straight in with a question. I promise I am not going anywhere.

It's been 20 odd years since I stepped into the RC racing paddock! So I am a little out of touch to say the least!

One thing that is confusing me that my basic under standing of motors is that the lower the t number, 7.5t for example stipulates the speed of .said motor?

The confusion starts with the current motor the Schumacher K1 Aero I have bought. It has a Castle four pole 3800kv. Max 100,000 rpm!

I have read lots of different things regarding gearing?

Is there an idiots guide to motors? Any help or advice is greatly and very thankfully received.

TTFN.

It's unlikely you'll find gearing advice on that motor so your best bet is to look up the kv figures of popular motor brands 7.5, 8.5 etc motors and get an idea of what your motor is the equivalent of. And yes, the lower the number 7.5, 6.5 and so on, the quicker the motor will be. This varies between brands.

I know speed passion info sheets show the kv rating of different motor winds so that might be a good starting point.

i would recommend changing your motor to a stand turn based brushless.
4 pole motors are generally more powerful and used in 1/8th E buggy and 4wd shortcourse.
returning after 20 years and having that in a K1 may be a lot to handle.

As said normal turn motor and 7.5 is perfect, but youll need a good esc so would get a combo package like orion, lrp or whichever brand is in the price range youve got, but would advise looking on team novak for their gearing chart for motors as it comes in handy for a good starting point gear ratio.
