Why waste so much money on a car that had zero success

Cus there rare as anything and if they were around longer they would of been more understood and done better I think

Depends really who's about and if they want it enough but when was the last intruder for auction on there let alone an EX

Bargain £1000 the guy of rc10talk didn't sell his for less than that on eBay but then again how he expected to sell hundreds of pounds worth of cars with 1 picture God only knows

The eBay NIB one is the significantly less desirable Adonis basic version.
I have owned around 15 Tomy cars over the last 5 years and the EX is by far the rarest.
It is/was actually a good car in it's day, lack of a top driver and parts support let it down.
I guess it is a waste of money only to those who haven't been lusting after one for years.

I'd put a NIB EX in the same bucket rarity wise as the Yokomo 93wcs but not as rare as a Hirobo Jealousy (almost but not quite ;) )

Intruder was my first Rc car in 1990 I think I almost gave it away and bought a cat xls wish I still had it now ( bit like my rs2000 that I scrapped cos it got major tin worm:confused:)
Great thing hindsight !!!

Nope, not an EX... although I never wanted the EX... Quite happy with the end price though.
The standard one had the cool alien shell, the EX just looked like everything else!

Oh well I'll sell my standard Intruders soon and keep the EX :)
You can see them on the Tomy Vintage RC facebook group (I'm an admin) or PM me if interested. One has the RTC slipper that you don't see often. All have upgrades.

Yes cheap, the fact the shell was crap and the front tower is wrong is by the by. Mine sold for more than double that.

Ebay Sales:
On 13th June Tomy Intruder sold for £337.00 + £10 P&P
On 13th June Tomy Intruder EX sold for £330 inclusive of delivery
I have been buying Tomy cars and parts for some time. I’m one of these people who are prepared to spend well over the odds to own something that doesn’t always come up that often. Unless you are Dan who seems to have found the Tomy rainbow
Recently though I have been fortunate enough to pick up a few spares and buggies. I have even managed to get hold of some rare ish items that I’m grateful to own. Some of you would spit your coffee over your keyboard at the prices I have paid. I have also got lucky and managed to get some items for next to nothing. These haven’t been purchased for an investment to resell at some future date. I have purely purchased to keep and enjoy, if I ever go off them they can just sit in the loft.
I was however amazed the other day with the sale of two Tomy buggies. While I obviously don’t know what goes on behind closed doors and these buggies often change hands for unknown sums outside of auction sites or forums. I recall an Intruder selling around the end of the year on the US ebay for the equivalent of around £300. Adam’s Tomy Intruder is one of the nicest I have seen, the paint job is so amazing I actually have a picture of it saved on my PC. Sad of me I know! The car was boxed and included instructions, the box was damaged. I feel Adam got a fair price for this car. If I didn't already own a number of Intruders I too would have bid.
The surprise of the day was the Intruder EX. Selling a few hours before Adam’s Intruder this went for a lot less than people had been guestimating. Yes the car had a shell with windows cut out, would you race an EX any way? Yes the front shock tower was incorrect and not the EX version but that’s pretty easy to sort if you know the correct people. There may also have been a reason for the difference in tower.
Both the cars look to be in great condition, I genuinely though the EX would go for more and would have estimated around £600. Maybe it was the timming of the auctions and their respective finish times. I noticed Adam's received a number of last second bids. The EX didn't.
Of note is also a set of unused front and rear Intruder wishbones/suspension arms which sold for £36. Prices in general seem pretty decent for the sellers. On the other hand there are some random bits on the US Ebay site which have been up for months. I guess the appeal of the Tomy cars is small and unique but to only a few.
I have noticed a few people selling of their buggies lately. Hopefully it’s not due to any secret knowledge of an impending recession / WW3 / Zombie apocalypse. I do think over time these buggies will potentially lose their value.
My original RC hobby lifespan was cut short. On my list of cars to own and race at the time was the Intruder, which is why some years later I managed to get one and things snowballed from there. I wasn’t even aware the EX existed but being the person I am wanted to own one as soon as I found one for sale no matter what the cost.

I know some will shoot me down, but for me, which was the higher specification car or rarest is not linked to the price I will pay or which one I want to buy.
I remember the EX coming out when I was 13 or so, I also remember sitting in a caravan on holiday reading Radio Race Car and drooling over the standard Intruder, but never being able to afford it.
Naturally, as soon as I had my own cash, it was the Intruder I wanted, I had no interest in the EX as it wasn't the childhood dream. (which is the only reason I buy these cars now!)
So as rare as the EX is, I would always want the Intruder... and an Egress, YZ10, RC10 worlds etc etc... :)

I think that's a fair enough reason and don't think anyone would shoot you down for that. So who painted that shell then?

I have others :)
It was painted by Janos Nagy, but he's stopped painting now.
I've asked Paul Upton to do the same scheme since and he's awesome.

One thing is for sure. They will never be re-released which is why I love them.
Also remember the NIB Intruder that went on eBay, buy it now for 40 quid....I still can't get over that!! I messaged the seller and he said he isn't bothered and just found it in the loft. Amazing. The New Zealand buyer built it, good on him.

That's the one, I wonder if he ever painted the shell? Glad that it went to someone who appreciated it and shared the build. Not sure if I would build it or not. I guess I am lucky to own a couple in various stages of completion/condition.

Has he used MCI repro decals? The black/white overlay isn't right on "4wd electric powered racing buggy"

Sometimes Nathaneal's decals show the white underlay.
His decals were made from my original scan.
He's painted it well.

Not seen that link before so thanks for sharing. Top man painted the shell nicely. You know what I love about this car? It so looks like a (cant swear..) toy, especially the top and bottom pics. I actually love that fact especially as they performed reasonably well. I think it’s the bright red wheels.
I’m actually going to paint one of my shells the same way. Shame we Tomy fans can’t get hold of a decent replica wing.
Just remembered that cost the guy £40 :bored:

Apparently I was the sixth person in 40 minutes to ask if he has a BIN price
I have reprimanded myself for being so slow, yet again!
Left front has some damage, wheels look nice, well the ones that have pics. Once again another one without a wing, did people just bin the wing or carelessly lost it.
Lets see what this one goes for then..

Talked to Dennis on Saturday night he did use repro stickers as the kit didn't have them in it so they had to use repro's

If this comes to the UK someone please take a mould of the rear wing , would be great to get some reproductions out there. I would buy a few.
Have thought about bidding on this just for the wing, wheels and tyres. Last time I purchased something from the US the import tax killed me!
