I've been struggling to get one meeting out of my gear diff before the oil's leaked into gearbox casing. After looking at my gear diff I could see the slots in the diff case where the cross pin locates were too close to the edge. The paper gasket on it's own can't keep the oil inside once it starts rotating at high speed.
I work in the off road motorcycles industry. We use ThreeBond 1104 NEO sealant to seal metal to metal surfaces such as crank case halves where a paper gasket isn't used. It's resistant to oil, petrol, coolant and other chemicals so I thought this would be ideal to test on my diff.
I put a very small amount of ThreeBond on the outside edge of the diff cover which sits inside the diff case (not on the gasket face). The car has since done 2 meetings and it's not lost a drop!
Hope this helps anyone else out with the same problem :)
