Just wondering what people consider is a safe maximum operating temperature for a Speed Passion V3.

Thanks in advanced

Wow! Soooo easily done with these modern motors.. On the rostrum there is usually absolutely no clue as the performance remains the same, up until total melt down :-s

Very ironic, as back in the day it was the cells that would melt rather than the motors as a rule of thumb!

Not a speed passion but on this note....how do you measure?

Using a laser temp gun aimed at the exposed (ie hole in the can) parts of my motor, I have kept it to 60C tops, this means it is hot enough that I can still touch it for a few seconds.

I was running a Toro 160A esc and that kept cutting out as it was set to 105C for the motor temp and it was going as high as 109. I have refitted my older 120A with same boost/turbo/timing and that is only reporting about 10C over what the laser gun says ie 70 ish.

I know internally will be hotter but just trying to confirm that the 160 is dodgy and over reading and I can actually go up a little on the timing if only showing 60C external

cheers

I read off the can as this has been where I have tested from first days of brushless with no cooling holes, reading through the holes is as u say a different part and the insides are hotter .

I will alway read off the can the vent hole are not all in the same position from brand to brand ,so tempted can change with which components is under the vent

Sounds like my 160 is wrong then. I think I will go round the pits at my next meeting with my laser gun and see what other people are hitting :)
