Looking to buy a new motor and they all have different kV values. Which is the best to get? The one with the higher or lower rating ?
Cheers

KV is a bit of an odd rating, it stands for RPM per volt. So theoretically if you are using a 7.4 battery and a 4500kv motor, you would be getting 33,300 RPM on the output shaft. Motors are not all that simple, as some have better torque than others. as once you put a mechanical load onto the shaft, i.e. your gearbox your motor will not actually be spinning at the max RPM.
But as a simple guide, the bigger the number, the faster the motor, it gets more complicated you you look at motors with multiple poles etc.

KV ratings tend to refer (although not exclusively) to "sensorless" brushless motor the higher the KV the higher rpm per volt applied
1/10th off road primarily use "sensored" motors with an extra "sensor"lead
lead
thes motors are measured in winds
low winds have more rpm and higher current consumption ie 4.5,5.5
higher winds less rpm lower current consumption ie 13.5 17.5
2wd buggies generally run around 7.5/8.5 turn
4wd buggies generally run around 6.5/7.5 turn
hope this helps

soon as you adjust the static timing of a motor the kv changes too
