Does anyone know if this will be re released by tamiya?
I always wanted one when i was younger.
Is anyone racing one at vintage events? If so, how do they handle the power of modern motors? I may try to find an old one to race.
Any opinions or help welcome.

I've heard no rumours but you never know and it would be nice:drool:

I know of no one racing one at the moment.

I would think the drive train would cope with a lot of punishment maybe not some of the real low turn motors but certainly anything down to 12x2 sort of grief. My friend ran a Vanquish for some years with hot modifiers of the time with no real issues.

i very much doubt it,tamiya always seam to re relaese the cars you dont want(firedragon?,boomerang?,frog?,grasshopper?) as you may have seen there are alot of tamiyaclub members on here and we've all been shouting for the roughrider and that didnt happen.

In my opinion there's too much metal in the SRBs to make a re re viable hence the release of the F350 (plastic) rather than a faithfull 3-speed reproduction. So I won't hold my breath for an Avante but not such an issue with the Egress. Many Tamiya nuts cut their RC teeth on Frogs, Hornets and Grasshoppers so they were not only logical re res but also cheap to produce.

In my opinion the older cars are to expensive to make a re-release.

This is good news for the collectors... :p

Not if you're a re re collector:woot:

The prices they fetch may suggest a re release may be successful!

Has anyone owned one, if so what were they like to race?

seen one run a few years back and was as quick as the cat ecs it was racing against. looked quite good would love one myself if they were cheaper than the current ebay hype seems to suggest

I was gonna get one, but decided on the 501x because parts would be easier for me to get. Most people dont even build it and just leave it in the box. If I had one Id have to build it, I just cant see a pretty car like that not being used.

I really cannot see why this was not able to win championships or worlds.
It just seems very advanced for the time? Was there little support from tamiya? Or did it just not work?
I just WANT one, and have since i was 10 years old. Anyone race one?

I had one back in the days (90-91), I made my first races with it. I think it didn't handled that good against competitors (ProCat, Lazer ZX, YZ10). It was fine on smooth tracks but the lack of droop (specially at the front) made the handling rather poor on more bumpy tracks. It was also rather fragile. The car didn't see much development, the TRF team (Jamie Booth) quickly adopted the Top-Force platform.

What a lovely car though. Alloy, carbon, titanium screws everywhere, smooooth dampers... Oooh I miss her!:woot:

That car is fantastic.

My knowledge of all r/c ends about this time (top force), and begins again after the touring car revolution. I think other interests may have turned my eye for a while. :wub

I dont know anything of the top force, but am going to have a little look on tamiya club,. Was this platform successful?

My old top force for you as well. This version is the Evo which even had Titanium screws which i beleive were worth around £70 at the time lol...

Always loved the "cool" lettering they would put on the wings.... (see above)... not sure it ever quite translated from Japanese idea to plain old english.....:D

Wow they are mint - a new in box Egress sold on Ebay just the other day for £925 would you believe

Ive just bought myself a very tidy ( but not as mint as yours ) Avante Mk1 - ill put some pics up when i get it cleaned up. Apparently mint Avantes go for over a grand ! ? :eh?:

They do mate, at the time when i bought the Top force evo and the Egress, i desp wanted an avante, I was bidding on a mint one at the time just needed a new body and decals to make perfect. Luck would have it at the time, a new bodset was on ebay , and it was ending before the car was up..

As you do i was bidding on the last few mins, and i didnt want to pay more that £80 for the body and decals.. ( which in fairness is still excessive ) , i was gutted when it sold for £135.. i ddint bother with the car then as you would never be happy with a mint car with no shell lol.

Iv still got a top force hybrid that i started to acquire new bits for, to amke mint new wheels n tyres and a new uncut shell, wing and undertray with re release decals. Might be tempted to let it go if anyone wnat s nice project lol. it alos has the very rare rw racing chassis conversion..

It is bonkers really!

Was the top force a racing success?

It was only British 4wd champion in the hands of Jamie Booth, that's all. Didn't "Team Tamiya" consist of JB, one Alan Harman and Steve Haynes if memory serves.

That looks like a Avante or Avante 2001 with Egress shell? It has Avante suspension arms and Avante 2001 FRP chassi.
Nice!.:-)

I saw these on ebay a while back, people really pay high $$$ for something like this.
Oh and I read on tamiya club that Avante parts do not fit on it, so parts are pretty hard to get.
That said people that own one dont even run it. But there was a couple
stray videos on youtube were someone put a 5.5R Novak system in one.
Id be afraid to.

I remember when the Avanti came out, man the hype was huge and the car looked very impressive. I thought it would be a sweet racer but in the end i think it was far too over engineered. I have always liked these particular cars but i dont think they make very competitive racers when you have Procat's,Dog Fighters and Lazer's to compete with. I'd like to be proven wrong and they may look the dux nuts but not sure they can keep up with the more proven cars of their time.

I'm a bit confused with the Egress pic above, My brother had one, and Steve 'Old Dog' Haynes also raced them at our club all those years back.... And you're right about not being able to afford them then let alone now. Anyway, I remember them being like in the pic below, (A photo from the net) not with plastic suspension parts as on the one above. It was the Avante that had the plastics, wasn't it?

Time to bump peoples ego on their Tamiya Knowledge - what is this - I was thinking an Avante 2001? I brouht it with a few other bit's a few years back, I was going to use it at a club night now and then, as suggested earlier, just to see how far chassis have or have not come on...

You are correct that car is definatley an avante 2001.
