Removing tyres

Whats the best way of getting old tyres(rubber) off the rims so that you can use the rims again??

although in 8th people hardly ever re use their rims as they get pretty scuffed up & never seem to glue up very well the second time around!

Agree 100% ... not worth the hassle given the price of new rims:D

i use my tyres for a few runs then sell them on as used tyres and if i do ever wear a set right out i keep them for running in engines.its just not worth the hassel of unglueing them

Boil em for 8 mins in your best saucepan. They'll pull right off.

I use this method but only 50% of the time does it work, ive been told too boil them for 10-15 mins then submerge in cold water imediately (sp?) after taken out of saucepan and it doesnt seem too work very well, am i doing somthing wrong?:eh?::cry:

Last week I oven cooked a load of wheels & tyres at 150c for 15 mins. The buggy tyres came off fine with the wheels & inserts intact.

However, my Yokomo TC wheels melted into oval white blobs:cry:

Then, yesterday I left a Yokomo TC wheel in Boots Nail Varnish Remover for 24hrs. (Nearest thing I (the missus) had to Acetone).
When I looked at it this morning - surprise, surprise - a white melted blob:cry:

Funnily enough, the disposable plastic Coleslaw tub I left it in was just fine!

Boil in water for a good while. Use an old towel and work'em / tear off. If still not loose then boil some more. Any super glue will eventually come loose. And no nasty solvents necessary!

As SHY' saidI wasted money on acetone based solution,nasty smelly stuff & it really didnt give good results for removing tyres.
i use ZAP glue to stick my tyres on,this is the mother of glues! if & when i need to remove tyres from rims i just put them in a saucepan,bring to the boil & simmer for 3/4 hour & you can dry out moulded inserts and use again if need be.
dont go wasting your money on nasty chemicals, when theres plenty of water in the tap.

ill have to try leaving the tyres in the boiling water a bit longer or the ven cooked way,mentioned above, but at the moment im just ragging a set up and down my road for fun use when im bored lol.

put them in a brown paper bag then in the microwave 4 a min or 2 just keep a check on them m8 it works great 4 me :)
