Jerky jerky.....

Hi all,

I've just replace the speedo in my Cat after a disastrous day at worksop on sunday. The speedo I put in has worked fine until now.

I've wired it all up fine, but when I've just tested it on the street its jerky as hell. it doesn't move at all sometimes until I give it a push, then its just not smooth like it should be. I've tried a different sensor wire and it still does the same.

Any ideas?

bonded or sintered core? the tape holding it together can come off and cause something similar to what ur saying. I used to have it happen with my lrp motors of the early days!

not that it matters tel, but what speedo is it?? i've had some leccy gremlins in one of mine lately:mad:

Hmm, to be honest I haven't got a clue matey! lol

Its a speed passion 6.5 new style. And a Nosram Matrix.

The thing is, that motor worked fine at the weekend with the different speedo?!:eh?:

Strange. Can a speedo turn faulty just from moving it from car to car?

Hope not, as I've not got any speedo if it is the case.:cry:

Well only from getting it too hot from soldering i guess? Probably just a coinsidence. I would change the motor first to eliminate it being the problem.

Unfortunately electrics go funny for no reason.
I restarted my laptop last night and now the screen wont work for the first few tries, but it works yesterday perfectly.

changed the motor in mine and it seemed to work. strange as the motor works fin in another car:eh?:

Ok, cool guys. I'll try another motor. just couldn't be arsed after all the messing around changing it.:(

Hopefully it'll just need a different motor. otherwise thats 2 speedos in a week that have died.

Not too bad i did a Novak and LRP in 2 races at Stotfold last nat. :lol:

It was the LRP sphere that died on sunday.
Just kept giving me the blue light and stopping.
It allowed me to get a warm up lap in, then as I went to nail it for the starts it just wouldn't go.

It went a couple of times, but after half a lap, it just slowly came to a halt.:mad:
It resulted in 5 laps all day!

Ah, thats sucks, mine just bellowed out thick white smoke for about 10 seconds, i kinda took that as being knackered. I hate them kinda problems.

Yeah me too. They're so difficult to diagnose.
I'd rather it just done the 'bellowing smoke' thing, at least that way I'd know for sure.:D

Just a thought; have you properly checked all your solder joints on the motor and battery power wires/plugs? An accidental bad or dry joint can play havoc with systems, and can easily cause cogging and problems like yours. It sounds like a bad connection or solder joint to me.

I re-soldered everything twice, as I changed the wires thinking it could be that, but still the same.

Think I may try a new motor and go and buy some fresh wire and re-wire it all.
