I have a new kit to build, I never had a ball diff, so any tips on how to build it and set it up right
I know a mate that did his and guess it was too loose or something as it melted and was ruined,
just after any pro tips for my first ball diff build
cheers

It's pretty obvious if the ball diff is too loose, it will sound like a loose slipper but more of a bark sound too it.

ok thanks, what about orientation, does it matter, is there a chance that it will undo itself round 1 way??
manual just shows how to put it together

I believe the convention is that the head of the adjusting screw is on the rhs of the car, as if you were sat in it. I put the diff in my B3 the other way round by mistake once, and it became loose.

Manual for kits pretty easy to follow but clear grease on big balls and black grease on the small thrust race balls.
When tightened all the way up you fully loosen off a bit as by doing this sorts the spring out and the outdrives should rotate but once in car should be a smooth rotation when connected up but make sure the slip is fractional so by holding one wheel and spur together see if you can still turn the diff, i set mine to only just but when doing this make sure the slipper is set correctly or tight for this proceedure. Hope i make sense.
