I guess its less aerodynamic grip replaced by more mechanical grip which hopefully will lead to closer racing and easier overtaking......we'll see.:D

Not at all. Slicks increase grip, bigger front wing to increase grip, lower to the ground to increase grip. So lots to increase grip mechanically and aerodynamically.

The rear wing is all about wake. Hence it's smaller (will reduce lift) so you lose a bit, but it's higher up, so running in clean airflow which will help and the wake is much higher up.

Combine this with the lower wings on the front, wake becomes less of an issue and you should get more grip for overtaking. So the rear is about reducing grip to increase it further back, if that makes sense at all.

Either way though, F1 cars are probably the worst aerodynamic things out there. Standard road cars are much more efficient aerodynamically. For this reason they will always generate a crap load of wake, no matter how much the FIA and F1 want to change things.

However it's worth noting, just the process of change makes things interesting. Major changes means everyone is given a clean sheet of paper. Well not essentially a clean sheet, but certainly put the teams on a level playing ground. For that reason expect some exciting stuff :)

Cool huh! For those who are interested the new Redbull car officially hits the track in Jerez tomorrow.

Are people getting used to how the new cars look now?

Should be a great season ahead :)

I must say that it is the best looking car I've seen so far that is made to the new regs.
You can always rely on Adrian Newey to design a gorgeous looking car that goes well too.
