Hi, my lad is 12 and just getting in to cars (currrently flys gliders) and likes the idea of staying with sticks rather than a wheel. A couple of questions please; Is there any reason he couldn't use his Spektrum DX5 radio and an AR receiver?
If this isn't a goer, what entry level stick radio would suit a novice?
Thanks in advance,

Unless you can restrict the stick movements to the correct plane and have the left throttle stick centre sprung it would be very awkward. Unfortunately stick radios with some useful settings start at about £60ish, then jump up to £250 for the Futaba. Shame spektrum never bothered with a stick radio for cars.

Another option might be to buy used to get within budget. The KO Esprit and Sanwa Exzes ranges are great quality and will last very many years if looked after. :)

You could use the DX5 so long as you use the " sprung" stick, in up and down position , for throttle and the other stick for steering...depends whether the transmitter is mode 1 or 2...
