Hi All,
I bought one of those Weller pistol type soldering irons last year and it appears to have given up the ghost already, it's just not getting hot enough to solder the motor wires onto the terminals....
So, I'm looking for a replacement soldering iron, not too expensive but good quality and (hopefully) long lasting......
Help please folks!
Thanks

I use a core rc 80w and it does a great job. Hot, reliable and easy to use. I have a 100w spare brand new in packet if interested?

Hi,
both ideally.
Home use or keep in pit box?
The TS100 is good for all round general iron. It doesn't come with a power supply but can use a 4s lipo or a converted laptop power supply.
Or a gas iron, i used one of these on my 1/8th and 1/10th
Or if you want one for in the field and one at home then the nation I've listed below has been good.

I had considered a gas iron, but can you use them around esc and motor terminals?

Thanks all.

This is the best gas iron period. They manufacture for Snap-on amongst others and are great value. I have soldered 1/8th ebuggy esc and motors and it can really heat up big lumps of metal.

However the best value bench system is the Corally soldering station 75. Uses Hakko elements and is a great deal: (Disclosure, I am a Corally Team Driver)

For more money, the best soldering iron I have ever used is the PMTech Quick 202D which used to be badged as the LRP soldering station for around £250 but is only £110 here:

Thanks all.

I use one of these from Maplin, more than good enough for soldering the motor wires and you can regulate the heat on it.

good choice, ive got 3 portasol technic irons, one ive had around 15 years and still going strong, so not needed to open a spare yet, lol, only downside is the price of tips but they do come up cheap on that bidding site every so often
