Bought a Skyrc Toro 120a speed controller from eBay last week.
Wired it up and it was working great at the club for about 7-8 minutes when it just cut out as I was coming onto the straight. It is now totally unresponsive. It doesn't respond to anything. No fan on, no lights etc etc. Tried different batteries and it does nothing.
Seller I bought it from has said to get it repaired and they will cover the cost. (I have already asked for a refund or exchange but they want me to go down the repair route).

Does anyone know of anywhere in the UK that repairs these speed controllers?

Cheers
Paul

Sorry mate :) Paddy had a problem with that speedo too on Thursday.

I'm unsure how much the guy charged me but have a word with Ash and get in touch with him...it may work out cheaper to buy another one :(

Hi paul, i have bought a toro 120a esc from steve webb to replace the sp one i blew on thursday and it looks different to that one. It may well be a fake one you have bought
Have a look at this http://www.insidelinemodels.com/inside-line-shop/motors-speedos-brushless/speed-control-esc/toro-ts-120a-alloy-esc-black-p
This is exactly how mine looks, not how the one in your ebay link looks.
I might be wrong but there are a lot of fakes on the bay apparently

These are the official versions sold by schumacher

As you can see the heatsink machining is very different. Report it to ebay if you are not happy pal

Also look here to compare http://www.skyrc.com/TS120_Aluminum

Two different versions, alloy case and plastic case. Hence differences, does seem you get bad batches of these ESC.

Same as the one on eBay

That heatsink is the plastic case version:
http://www.skyrc.com/Power_System/ESC/TS120_Plastic

QC has been patchy on these. I've run them for ages, and have original ones that have run perfectly for 2-3 years now.
I've known of others who have had them blow in first use, first few runs or after not much time at all.

If someone collects enough broken power boards, then they could potentially transplant working FETs from the non-blown phase onto one circuit power board.

Good information there chaps,

I stand corrected.

Just very suspicious of ebay items having been duped before by inferior quality imports sometimes.
Where you go from here is personal preference but I would be asking for a replacement or refund, why should you have to get it repaired yourself after only a few minutes of running.

Good Luck Paul, see you Thursday

Cheers for the replies, I am just going to push them for a full refund as I can't be arsed trying to get it fixed.
I have found a letter template written by Which magazine asking for a refund (and to cover the return postage costs) as the item is faulty, otherwise i will open a dispute on eBay.
Cheers

Yeah, go that route, then I'd raise a paypal dispute and get your cash back if it fails.
