Now i havent got the equiment or the money to be milling any aluminium so i did the best i could with the bits that i had, and here it is...

Hi all!...

I drobe the car for the first time "in anger" today, and i have to say i was really quite impressed! jumped well and seemed very planted throughout the corners!

I will be racing it next week to see how it fairs against the competition but its looking promising after today

All i need to do now is make a shell !

Tah,

Tom

Looked very nice today mate. Seemed better through the corners than the others I saw you driving with. Jumped pretty flat aswell by the looks of things. Be interesting to see it go outdoors.

Small update...

Just a pic of the "coca cola" shell which is my second attempt at makin one from the mould using a coke bottle and a heatgun, not amazing but does the job!

Racing and developments:

Lent the car to a friend at the track (Craig Magee) as he broke his cat... I got the impression he liked it, i then let another driver have a go, Barry Weldon, he seemed to like it and said it was very responsive although the rear wheel sometimes lifted when turning...

Ill have another update when the new chassis is done... Jay is making me a Carbon Fibre tub which im very excited about and should reduce the flex in the chassis and stop the wheel from lifting...

When the new chassis arrives, ill be making a new shell, maybe even look into getting one done properly

Comments please! Cheers, Tom

Tom, you should have all the parts with you within the week, i was hoping to finish the mould off today, but i'm still waiting for an item to arrive so i can complete it. The extra alloy part has been made, and i'll make up some spacers to fit the B4 Top plate , i'm looking forward to seeing this done myself, its gonna look smart:thumbsup:

Great news Jay!! Cant wait to see it all done, im going to order some balsa to make a new mould for a shell, possibly getting it vacformed to give crisper lines!

As said, i used a persil bottle, it had some basic shape and was almost long enough to cover the entire car ;)

Hopefully have the new chassis on Sunday? if Jay's coming to do track maintenance :woot:

Ive seen pics of the first chassis to come off the mould from Jay...

It looks the dogs cahooners!! (Jay wasnt 100% happy so he will be fiddling with the process of making it)

However i will be putting it together tomorrow and taking some more pics and doing some testing

Looks great to me, but why copying the S2 lay-out?

Edit: just saw the ESC behind the battery packs, why did you choose to do it this way? Any advantage regarding balance of the car or just easy wiring as the ESC is close to the motor?

on this chassis, you have the choice of battery positions, the configuration you see above, was just to get the car running today, the batteries could be turned 90 degrees and pushed further back or even use a stick pack , there's plenty of room for moving things around

Cheers Garry, was really impressed myself!! Need to make a new mould for the shell and get a rough one sorted... then its testing next week!

Rossi, as Jay has said, the layout was purely to get the car going for a practice today... Unfortunately i only took 1 set of batteries and forgot the charger so only managed a quick blast

The ability to moove the cells sounds cool, Can they be shifted flush to the servo too?

If you wanted them flush with the servo, then of course they can be moved there...

My idea was to drill several holes so the batteries could be moved further backwards or fowards depending on how you wanted the car to handle...

Tests will be done in the coming week as to finding what we believe to be the optimal position...

The car benefits from using saddle lipos as there is no risk of them shorting meaning they can be alot closer together, thus leaving more room in the chassis...

Hope this helps,

Tom

i had a mess about with some saddlepack lipo's to see how they fit, and there's all sorts of ways they can go in, if you use battery trays like Tom has, they could even go at 90 degrees to each other in a 'T' formation, as i said earlier, there's loads of room considering its a slim chassis ...... Tom, we may need to do a slimmer version :woot:, mk 2 version with a few revisions me thinks:thumbsup:

you can pay as soon as you like :woot:, no saying you'll get it for a while:lol:. i'm changing the way i do them, which will give me a much better and consistant quality chassis, and a couple of parts need to be machine cut for accuracy, so the next chassis i make will be in a couple of weeks, i've also been asked to do a standard shape B4, so thats in the pipeline aswel:thumbsup:

Cheers mate! If you mean how long did it take to make... The prototype car seen in the very first pic in the thread took a couple of hours, I then showed this to the chassis maker (Jay) and he made a couple of changes and the CF chassis was completed in about three weeks (including design time etc)

There are a few more small mods being worked on and a little more testing needs to be done

Cheers, Tom

Tom's spot on, the mould for the c/f chassis took about 6 hrs to make, and 20 mins to lay it up, but it was done over a 3 week period, there's some new additions to be added to the conversion, and i've also got some other rc related items in the pipeline

i'll be running a slim b-4, for the first time proper tomorrow, i'll be using stick pack lipo's, so we'll see how it handles on the track with different layouts:thumbsup:, it felt a bit light on the rear when i just tried it outside:confused:

for the first time on the track, it went very well, i've never been a big fan of the b4, but i'll defo be running this one again, it did feel a bit nervous on the track at times, but that was more to do with worn tyres and changing track conditions ..... i qualified for my first A final of the year, and was running in 4/5th spot for part of it, so it can't be that bad

But would you consider making a copy one peice Tub chassis the X6 sq as a direct replacement?

Paul.

Hi Jay, not sure why you would want to do that to an X6?

Paul.

The x-6 based tub i'm doing will be the same width as 4 cells, which should give it similar weight distribution as the original x-6's but it'll be easier to move weight around to find optimum settings, but as i've said it's x-6 based, not an x-6, there'll be a new gearbox mount, shock tower and couple of other bits made, the main x-6 parts i'll use are the gearbox case and wishbones.
i'd thought about copying the x-6 sq, but i want my cars to be different:thumbsup:. i may make a standard size c/f x-6 chassis once i've finished the slims if there's enough interest, but at the moment they're being made for my own use, not for profit

anyway this thread is for Tom's slim b-4 idea, i'll start a new thread for the slim x-6 once the first parts are made:D

Hi Stampy...

That picture was the prototype car, the one myself and Jay were going to sell is the carbon tub car on the second page...

We never actually made or sold any other than the 2 we had for ourselves...

If you do want one then i could speak to Jay and see if he can make another, but they cost around £80-90 and thats just for the CF tub and the ally mounting plate.
