I've been using some old tools i got from my dad but most of them are crap so thinking of getting some new ones. The instructions dont say what size hex drivers i need and the screw sizes confuse me as they are all imperial. For example 4-40 3/8" 3/8" is the length, what does 4-40 mean and how does it relate to the size of the drivers as they all say

Inexpensive set with Aluminium machined and anodised handles. Hard bit. Four sizes - 0.050, 1/16, 5/64, 3/32

So would none of those fit the 4-40 3/8?

Others also say

1x .050x60mm
1x 063x120mm
1x 078x120mm
1x 093x120mm

4-40 is the thread diameter 4/40th of an inch 0,100" or 2.54mm. As for the tool sizes you've listed there the same sizes just as a fraction or a decimal, the .050 is just shorter reach than the other 3, the sizes on those relate to the hex size not the thread size but are right for what you need.

Hi,

All the screws on those American kits of that era were 4-40 or 5-40 if they were larger.

For allen drivers you'd need:

.050" for the grub screws.
1/16" & 3/32" for the 4-40 screws, it depends on the head of the screw if you need the small 1/16" or the larger 3/32"

This style of screw would use the 1/16"

This would be 3/32"

But both are 4-40 thread. So depends what you are putting together, what screw you use.

Yeah Mick's right just got home now so checked on the old X6 1/16 for the 4/40 csk and 3/32 for the 4/40 capheads, the .050 fits the small 2/56 button heads as well.

Yes bought one the other day. Of course being a xxcr kit means the ones that are rounded aren't included

Bit confused with the lengths too as I thought the sizes were as per the pics on the instructions seems they are a bit different though

My dad's old 1/16th associated tool that falls out of its handle works better than these. It either spins in the whole rounding all the edges or does even fit in properly don't get it

The biggest one seems fine the other 2 don't fit anything
