Hi Guys,
Just got back into racing after 13years out and alot has changed!! running a xx4 with a 19T motor. going to go brushless as this seems to be the way forward and im not that clued up on motor management!!
what is the best system out there at the moment. dont want anything scarily fast. looking at this at the mo. http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=ShowSpecification&ItemID=24636
is it any good for me? and if so is this a good price?
thanks for your help.
Mark.

The Nosram / LRP Systems are both prety good.

In My XX4 I've been running the Nosram Matrix Evo and 6.5 turn Motor.

Pay real close attention to the gearing suggestions in the instructions.

I have my 6.5 Turn on a 15T with a purple spur... It's still a little overgeared and could do with the Orange Spur....

5.5 Turn is silly fast. 4wd wheelying and flipping from a standstill...

7.5 Turn is also pretty good and allows a good spread of reasonable gearing without using chainsaw pinions...

Hope this gives you an Idea....

Thanks, will have a look at the nosram aswell

The nosram is exactly the same as the LRP, just choose whether you prefer blue or red!

I can back up what Adam said, the LRP/NOSRAM systems are superb, especially their 2007 spec.

I used a 5.5 at Kiddy for fun and it was ace!

what i like is there are no "special" brushless, team drivers run what we can buy!

Cheers guys, i have settled on lrp or nosram anyway. where can i get hold of the stuff as ive tried a few websites and not been able to find what i want.
Thanks. Mark

mb models in leeds can supply the nosram

And that you don't need to worry about going faster.

It's now down to driving ability! :(

Personally i would wait until the tekin comes out.

hmmmm, yes, its winning all the big races :p

might as well wait to buy a product that is brand new instead of one that is in its 3rd generation and a well proven winner

jimmy

now now lads ! lol
Agreed tho, the Tekin isn't out and so is unproven - can't really be recommended. It does LOOK great though, have to wait and see.

I am just being an arse to prove a point Jimmy.

I don't do it often, but it narks me when people recomend something that is not even out yet and that they have most likely had no experience with

Chris, was just giving my personal opinion. I currently use LRP q2 and it is good, and the LRP brushless is v good (agreed), but i PERSONALLY would wait until the Tekin system comes out. Ask my why, i dont have the money to throw at something which will be superseeded with in 12 months, its ok when you get them for now't.

If and when the Tekin system comes out, and IF (big IF) its better than the LRP then the 4TH generation LRP will/ should be even better still.

(Hope we can agree on that point)

No matter what you are buying, it's always best to wait as long as you can before buying - so you get all the options.

What is out / coming out ?

The LRP / Nosram system
Mamba Max
Novak
GM
Orion / Peak (same as GM ?)
Tekin

Any others worth considering ?

Well i have just bought the LRP Sphere esc and the LRP X11 vector 6.5 Motor. it will be much faster than the 19t im using at the mo.
im sure ill break loads of front arms getting to grips with the speed.
will i be ok with GP3300? dont want to run out of juice!!

Apparently the GM one isn't available at the mo...

Hey Jim!! what about the Mtronics Genesis PRO.

Here is some blurb from their website!!

"The GENESIS PRO is the result of an extensive development program which has run for over 3 years. "

It must be good then, he he;)

OK, fair comment,

but for quite a while I was running first generation sphere (first batch production sphere, not even comp) in a borrowed B4 while I waited to get my own AE stuff and I raced that with some reasonable results and performance.

and you think tekin wont do that in 12 months time? tink if you buy anything electrical these days your lucky if its not been superseeded before 12 months

True, thats why i wait until the last possible moment. I will probably get a lrp system, because the q2 has been so good over the years. The size of the q2 is what i want to see from a brushless system, and the tekin system offers nearly this. So for me i hope lrp bring something out by christmass.

lrp/nosrm have just released a 07 speedo, are you talking next xmass?

Yeah.

The performance of those systems is very good, the thing I'd be looking for by next year would be smaller and less heat. Basically, so there isn't a need for a huge heat sink and/or fan. The Tekin looks good in that regard, very small, but right now all we see are computer visualisations.

Jimmy, you could mock up an oople brushless controller... also runs brushed, brushless and nitro engines

I've been using my LRP Sphere 2007 in my xx4 over winter with the 5.5 turn X11 motor. It has got nowhere nearing to thermalling, even after 7-8 min runs, and I am not running a heatsink or fan. I really can't see heat being a problem with the LRP.

LiamD
18-01-2007, 03:40 PM
I've seen the Sphere comp (not 2007 spec) thermal in a XX-4 using the 3* motor. Although the shell had no ventilation and was geared a little high.

Never had my Novak thermal. Although the first one did go up in flames quite randomly.

mark christopher
18-01-2007, 03:42 PM
the key is gearing gear them lower than normal brushed (higher number)

LiamD
18-01-2007, 03:50 PM
Yep! I've been running 81/16 on my X-6. On my B4 I would run 87/16.

Never had problems really, I think my first one going up in flames was just an odd one. I'm not the only one - I picked up Dave Pack's XX-4 at the Durham regional as that one went pop similiar to mine.

I ran for 20 minutes with my S4 at Kiddy, no holes in the body, just the heatsink on the speedo, no fan.

I checked the temp afterwards and it was 80 degrees away from shutdown, that is a long way from shutdown (15 flashes)

that was on a 5.5 X11 LRP motor, 1 tooth overgeared (to what I ran later in the day)

I had asked orion, the Orion brushless is in the final stages of preduction so soon the biggest motor and battery company in the RC world will be joining the brushless craze.

A:)

And if there any good ill have to get one.

How long has that taken, must be 3/4 years since they announced their system was nearly here.. :D

Quite suprising considering Oscar's comments on them (see Racer mag few months ago).

I've heard stories of the Orion brushless, apparently in a test car with lipo's they had it at Heemsteede (sp) and it was quicker than the 8th circuit cars in a straight line - apparently it hit nearly 130km/h down the straight. That's only hearsay from a driver who was at the track at the time though...

Well andy moore run a orion brushless when he was on fifth gear so it must be in final production im just passing on what i have been told on the orion forum.
