Can i run my sons B4 with a 19Turn Spec motor in i know most are run with around a 10 to 13 turn motor but he is only 6 and i dont want him to have an uncontrolable car But on the other hand i don't want to Fry 19 turn motors either ????
Any Gearing suggestions would be great as well cheers......
He will be running on Grass/Dirt

yes definatly, york club have a class for the tamiya silver cans, i have no idea on gearing though
Mate, a 19 will be great in that buggy. I run a 19 in mine for most club meetings, im not an amazing driver but it gets me round the track and with good cells they fly!
I think I run 24/81 in mine
depends on his ability, if he is just learning, put a 27t stock motor in it, that will be quick enough, on something between a 24 and 26 tooth pinion, when he is ready to go 19t, you can gear up to about 28tooth, depending on track.

Many people seem to run modified motors but alot of people do run 19t motors id you get a 19t motor you will need to run it on a 22 tooth pinion anythign higher will over gear it and it will last maybe 2 runs before it needs skimming.

Personally I run my 19 between about 24/25 and up to around 28 in the b4 with standard 81t spur
I think a 19 is too fast though for your lad, a silver can 540 motor is what you need. Vicky now runs a hammered 27 stock motor after starting out with a 540 silver. Theres no way she is ready for a 19 turn yet - I have forbidden it!, she'll just make more work for me to fix.:rolleyes:
22, I run a 21 on my 12 turn. 22 is way too low, a 24 is about right
24 on a tight track, maybe, but 19t is more torquey so can cope easily with being geared high, I reckon you will run out of space for meshing on a big track before you run out of grunt.

I went by the manual and what i have been told i ran a 24 pinion on my reedy 19t quad spec i had it skimmed at oswestry national (didnt run it then) then went to marston regional did 2 runs and it needed another skim as it had over heated.
But back on topic i think a 27 silver can will be best for a young driver.

I know but thn i put it back down to my 22 and it hasnt been skimmed since. and marston regional was ages ago.

depends on motor, batterys andtrack conditions.
On 19 turns i use 23-24 pinion depending on the layout of the track using 4200's.
Im a bit confused.
Is everyone using the 24 with an 81 or 84 spur. The kit spur is 81, pretty sure I'm running that.
Also, 2 runs out of that motor, even slightly overgeared sounds bad. You sure its not the motor, running 24/81 with my 19turn V2 motor, I ran the Mike Leonard endurance (about 1 hour total running) and 2 club nights and the comm still doesn't need a skim.

Ahh, thats reassuring. BTW, not trying to hijack the thread but would you say 21/81 is about right for a 12x1 indoors
81/24 for a stock motor, 81/25-27 for 19t

tc2k, what track and what type of motor? I ran my Reedy Kr 12x1 on 24/81 I imagine a V2 would be nearer 26 (they like to be geared up) and a checkpoint about 25.
for smaller tracks i'd gear one lower, i never go higher though.
Wait a minute, why are you gearing it closer for a faster motor, dont you do the opposite.

because 19 turns arnt modified, they are quite strange motors! We gear 19's seperately because they are different in ways.
10- 22/81
11- 23/81
12- 24/81
etc
etc
then 19 turn comes and it needs a completely different gearing, bit bizzare.. but the way it works! I run 19's alot in a club series and 23/24/81 works best for me.
Hmm, Im not quite with you, running a 21 pinion in my b4 with my 12 V2 is about right, I went 2 teeth higher and the motor came off baking. You sure thats not with the 84 spur?

definatly.. But as i say it varies with tracks, cells and track conditions.
if a 21 works well for you then go with it.. but i find with my motors they prefer to be geared higher.
what track do you race at..?
Teesside. Will be running the 12 turn at york this sunday though

porbably why! teeside is quite tight from pictures i've seen, and it's indoors so the car will run hotter. 21 is about right for a tight indoor track.. try 22 for york and you'l be sorted.

Sorry just seen ths now.
A 19t would be way too fast for a 6yr old (I know I have one - 6yr old that is) I think even a 35t silver can mabuchi would be too fast untill he has had some experience. I usually just turn down the EPA on the throttle for my lad, but I have considered going to 4 or 5 cells.

Thanks for the Advice i took it and fitted an old 27turn stock in my sons B4 , Still seemed pritty quick round the garden have to see how he goes at the track later today.................
