Tuning with different springs vs just lowering the spring platform

Is there any difference or do the spring tuning kits offer different ranges than I can get with the just lowering the platforms?

Yes there is a difference otherwise they wouldn't offer them - the spring rate refers to the weight required to compress the spring. "lowering the platform" just changes the ride height.

Ok, that makes sense although it feel stiffer when I lower the platforms. I've read up on it now and thats because I'm setting a pre-load which means the spring rate is effectively infinite until the preload is overcome. Which is kind of what I wanted as it was rolling too much without any pre-load.

Perhaps thats the wrong way of fixing it though as that preload stiffness must negatively affect traction?

Loweing and highering the ride height will have an effect on the weight transfer!

It depends what you need it to do and what your current setup is. If you want to share with us the details you'll get plenty of advice.

Going softer to a point, may increase grip depending on conditions, but will compromise other handling traits like taking off from jumps, hitting bumps etc. Its finding a sweet spot on the setup spektrum. :lol:

Thanks Chris. Will come back for advice once I've got the tool to rebuild my diff and stop it undoing itself every 2 mins! no point trying to work on the setup of a FWD cat!
