Please could you help me deciding on which cars I should run for this season? 2wd at the mo is B4, nothing 4wd. Please discuss.

I have an idea what you could run in 4WD woody, but I'll hold off and see what others think!

Btw, you should tell people you nearly won southport National last year and are one of the top drivers in the country - just in case they don't know! :p

Cheers Jimmy. I also finished 33rd in the WORLDS in Italy last year. So I am not a bad driver. I have a NATIONAL at my home track also this year, which I built. Please let me know what you think.

Drive the ZX5! it's a popular club car (as well as a top performer in the right hands) and all us club racers are crying out for some decent team driver advice with set ups etc since Niggs left!

There's more than one Japanese manufacturers car crying out for someone to drive it though! :)

I thought you were pretty quick at York with your B4!!! (great result btw) & last year when i saw you driving your BJ4.
By my own experience (or rather my sons) We changed late last year to Losi using the XX4 & the XXXCR, both have gone really well. The XX4 was second hand from Ian Southwell, we bought it the Saturday of the Telford National, never changed it from picking it up & the next day Greg got his best result in a national with it (thanks Ian, top car) so I was well impressed. He has recently got the XX4 into an A final at the Batley indoor regional & got his XXXCR into the A final at York yesterday so i can only say good things about both cars so far. I reckon they have helped him immensly.
Thats what I reckon, I think you would absolutely fly driving the losi's.

This is different - this is Woodys personal thread where he starts more debating and arguments! hehe

The Kyosho absolutely crys out for a top driver - as does the Tamiya 501X. These two would be at the top of my suggestions for those reasons. Woody will do well with anything - he is a GOD.

My opinion on the Tamiya front is, I think there like a "past master" they just like to dip there toe in every now and then just so they can say "we still got it!"

Its such a large company that they can throw a fortune at it for that 1 car just soley for the result then fade into the background and there norm run of the mill totally covered hobbyist markit that they cover so well!

That to me says Great if you only want a seasons racing then your on your own !

I think your better with the Kyosho's and the likes, the real racers the ones that strive on in the developement stakes to keep there cars at the top !

And yes as Jimmy states the zx5 does call out for a top driver, not only cos its a good car that needs its profile lifted in the UK but also for all the club racers out there that need that little bit of help in the developement stages of the car that having a top driver can do.

Get down off me soap box now:)

I think you summed it up well there mate.
Its not clear what Tamiya will do with the 501X - but I can't see Tamiya promoting it like it deserves. Kyosho dropped the ball in my opinon by taking this long already to get some good drivers to support the car - I really hope they can do something soon.
You only have to look at the numbers of helger (losi) backed racers on this forum - even last years Kyosho expert, Niggs98 is now a Helger boy. They have their act together and know how to promote their products.

Stick with the B4 for 2WD it seems to suit your style of driving if you are going to fund it yourself the cost of the thing will be a major factor, so the Kyosho would be a good bet. The Kyosho looks like a car that needs to be driven smooth and not raged which is your driving style. The Kyosho also won the f345 finals.:)

The good thing is with ~Kyosho is there releasing a 2wd before the season starts.

i also put mine 4th on the grid behind Niggs!
The ZX5 can be pushed hard, and thrown around. Anyone who knows niggs driving will testify to that! (sorry niggs! ;) )

the car mainly feels stable, especially over bumppy ground, and never throws surprises at you. Just gives you confidence to be able to push it without the risk of being thrown offline.

then again, i may just be because i've found a good set up on this car that i couldn't quite get on my others!

Go on Woody, you know you want to! it'll be a challenge instead of following the crowd!

Have you had a go with the X5 Stu? I cant reccommend it highly enough, occasionally it even makes me look like I can drive (Batley national for eg) :D:D

I say stay with the B4 in 2wd, you know that car inside out, no wasting runs chasing the perfect set up.

Of course if anyone was to offer you HIGHLY DESERVED sponsorship (hint hint to anyone reading this) that may bias the descision.

jimmy

I don't think Tamiya are taking off-road lightly, remember, when they went into scale saloon, they are still there, at the top, the problem with Tamiya, is unless you got a factory drive or a decent shop owner, Hobby Co (UK distributor) is useless, they brought 10 501X's into the country, and it isn't like they support ANY of the TRF cars in a spares way, let alone drivers.

I dunno about Losi, hmmmm.

CML and do the B4 and BX or S4?

I dunno about X-Factory, I would of thought they are looking for drivers, but I dunno.

23-01-2007, 03:34 PM
My guess is the only team Tamiya will have is their factory TRF drivers - and thats it. So the likes of Rheinard and Honigl etc. After that it will be Tamiya fans and other privateers. Which, certainly for the UK, means no top drivers possibly. Unless a random team sponsored someone to run one of course

Didn't you just say a couple of weeks back that you won't be marketing your stuff, and that it was for you to run??

Ooh yeah - here you go:

"Who ever mentioned me making a car to sell? The car I am building (currently) is purely for fun
It was purely a question I wanted answering, sorry if it upset or offended you."

AND - "The only way on this earth I am going to market this car is if it is the best thing since sliced bread lol And Makes me beat Neil Cragg Until then, its just a one-off custom car"

Stu - from what i know about you, Development is something you seem to enjoy (anyone that wins a national with a Traxxas has to know a thing or two) so why don't you just do something different even if just for the year? You can always go to a B4 and BX next year if they're looking like the best cars, but surely it'd be a really good fun challenge to get hold of the Kyosho, 501X, X6 etc just to see what you can do with them?

Go on lad, think outside the box :D

Look at me - still sticking with the old B3 for now  Maybe you could get the old Traxxas out of retirment lol

Dunt really matter what you drive in my opinion, I've been through a few and know of the ones to stay away from.. but any of the top manufacturered 4wds anyone can do well with.

In all seriousness, go for what you think looks nice, and then make it handle as none of them need serious work to make um a winner.

I'm honestly not bothered what i drive this year, I swapped to the b4 after the season closed and plan to stick with it for a good amount of time, for reasons of funds ( lack of ) and ive already invested too much time in the car to consider going back. The BJ4 was just to cater for the B4 as set up changes do nearly the same on both cars.

Would love to see you driving one of the newer kids on the block ;)

Thanks for that :D I think i will get a B4 at some stage this year, i'm still on a tight budget so just trying to gradually build up some stuff, but with Brushless getting better and better that will help me out a lot as at the moment the whole skimming motors thing is a real pain and costs a fortune....

I don't think i'll ever get back into it enough to do Nationals etc, for now it's just good fun having CML Raceway up the road to have some fun when the weather's good......

Woody.

I've run a fair few cars last year, not a lot of running, but quite a lot of cars, here's my 10pence worth.

Pred, it's just special and when it's right, it's so much fun to drive.

BJ Worlds, a safe bet, very neutral easy to drive quickly and bulletproof.

ZX-5, very good indeed when I ran it indoors last year, go for the KM conversion and the new 'mid section' pack for somehing different, the new shelll on rc-direct.co.uk looks rather tasty too. (I may still run one of these in 07)

X-6, only had 1 proper run to date, but i'm sold, so much more responsive than my B4 & losi, this will be my 2wd for 07.

If you have a BJ Worlds, then maybe a Slim 4 ? Looks different, and i'm certainlty converting mine when it's available, which is very soon I believe.

Please, don't be a sheep and buy a XX4 like everyone else !
Lastly, run a XXX4, beat all the XX4 drivers and start a migration back to the newer car, i'm sure Losi would thank you for that, and you'd be different !

I was just having a word with Mystic Meg and she told me she could see a zx5 in your future.......LOL

They crop up all over the forum with people singing its praise and how good the car is, what the zx5 needs is someone to lift it out of the shadow's into the lime light !

Go on ! you know you wanna ;)

Theres loads of zx5 drivers out there all hoping Kyosho will pick it up a gear and develope the car, perhaps Kyosho just need a great driver here in the uk that can put the car on the podium where it belongs and give them the feedback to improve the car to all our benifits, me included !

He isnt joking either, my bluebird shirts arrived in my normal size of 'large' and they fit nicely on my 5 year old nephew.. shame they don't fit the driver :D

They are good servos, mine have been very nice since using them in 2wd and 4wd (617 version).
