ZX5 mk1 VS SP

I am considering buying a pure stock mk1. What am I missing from the SP version (appart from the shell) ?

whats different in SP from standard...

Triple cap shock cartridge
Velvet coat shock bodies
Revised suspension & Steering geometry - (which results in the SP using a different offset front wheel)
One piece motor / centre shaft mount

The biggest difference is an enjoyable drive. Get an SP over the ZX MK1.;) I cannot advise strongly enough.

RogerM is the man in the know on this. Have a look through his posts, lot's and lot's of info and articulated much better than I.

I didn't realize there were so significant differences

I will have to wait for an SP then (don't like FS because 2x3 batteries = not compatible with my b4)

I wouldn't knock the original, you can pick one up really cheap second hand and then upgrade to SP when your ready

Basically the suspension geometry is totally different between the two cars as are the shocks and even the strength of some of the plastics used.

The original ZX5 can be a bit of a handful and some what skitish at times.

The SP is a totally different car to drive, much easier to drive fast and inspires lots of confidence.

To my mind the FS is better again and I think that is largely due to the more forward weight distribution making the front of the car more reactive and the 10mm or so longer wheelbase making the car more stable .... basically more of everything.

I was deeply impressed with the ZX5-SP and found a one set-up suits all build quite quickly and was very happy with the car.

The FS is the best car I've driven out of the box since I think the original Lazer ZXR-R all those years ago!!!

I am not personally that keen on the way that the original ZX5 handles on rough tracks but indoors it's ability to change direction makes up for it's compromised bump handling .... possibly the best of the 3 indoors!

Err no, in fact I didn't know that you were selling them still lol. I just meant upgrading by buying the seperate parts. So have you still got the LAW SP upgrade for sale?

I dont know if he has been in touch, but there is a guy who posted in the wanted section for an sp conversion (he was pointed your way though ;))

I missed the ZX5 mkI anyway

Now I am looking at a cheap 50£ RTR rolling chassis... From the review on "offroad cult" website, it's actually closer to SP than the mkI !

So I could upgrade this one(titanium screws, alloy shocks, )... Do you think the plastics will be different quality(I can't upgrade everything)

The RTR is essentially a ZX5 mk1 with all the racing spec parts removed!!!!

The suspension geometry is all ZX5 mk1, not a single SP/FS part on it thus it will be REALLY expensive to upgrade.
