Got my new futaba 3gr 40mhz tranny out for the first time last night. It's the first time I've had more settings than just trims (!), so I'm a bit bewildered.
Can I ignore most if the advanced settings or do people actually use them?

I normally only play with steering/throttle curve and throttle punch. Ill do it on the speedo if i get time though. I ignore the rest.

I have a 3GR too and it's ace, no more crystals . This is what I've done with mine:
1. Throttle EPA reduced from 100% to 85%, different motors/speedo's will need more or less but if you leave it on the default 100% setting you'll probably spin out as soon as you think about braking.
2. Steering EPA - set it so that your steering arms just stop short of hitting the arms on full lock, this avoids stressing the servo unnecessarily.
Everything else is down to preference. If you have a nitro car you can set the brake mix for example. If you have more than one car you can assign each one a specific model memory (max 10 different memories) with a name for each.
The 3GR is well worth the money particularly for electric cars in my opinion as the top sets like the 3VCS are only worth the massive extra price if you have a nitro/petrol car.

Ooops sorry I just re-read your post you have the 40mhz version rather than the 2.4ghz so the bit about crystals is irrelevant. All the stuff about settings still applies though.
Memo to self: must read things properly before jumping in with an answer .

Can you explain this a bit more? How does throttle EPA affect braking? I also have a novak gtb to be set up with a little bit of drag brake as it's for 2wd. Do I still need to fiddle with the throttle EPA in that case?

I'm pretty sure Spoolio meant throttle EXP, not EPA. But I think he's also referring to brake EXP, not throttle EXP! I bought this transmitter not so long ago, so far I've played with EPA, EXP and turned the servo speed down a tad.
