New Radio Setup

I am just starting out in RC cars and fitting out my b4. Can anyone suggest a good radio and receiver?

I am unsure if to go down the 2.4 ghz route (may be something like this http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/item/SPM5500-Spektrum-DX5e-5-Channel-2-4Ghz-Radio-Set__50fa/ ) or keep it cheaper and look at something like a 2 Channel - 27Mhz set or even something in the middle say at 40Mhz (although can't find many of these for sale).

I don't really want to spend too much but if I can see the benefits of more pricer equipment I would be prepared to pay more.

2nd hand Acoms kit from here or the bay unit you're happier? I'm running 15 year old Ko Propo wheel radio gear and my focus is the ESC next. I "may" go for a 2.4Ghz system around june, but I'll want things like lap times etc.

Really looking for Stick. Is cheaper Acoms sets ok? They have them new 27mhz and 40mhz sets on ebay but wasn't sure.

Have been looking out on the sales forum here but not many radios seems to come up.

The sanwa Gemmini II is very good very low price digital 40mhz radio for learners and pros alike with all the adjustments and settings you may learn to use and want in the future when your driving progresses and want to tweak the way your car feels more.
I still use 40mhz/27mhz as so many have bought 2.4ghz now that theres no need to change crystals anymore which was the man reason for 2.4ghz coming out as everyone used to be on 40mhz or 27mhz and there used to be problems with clashing crystals no theres very little of it. The gemmini can be picked up new for around £90 i think but can be bought 2nd hand for very good prices of around £40-50 well worth it as if you get a bog standard radio you may want to upgrade not too long after you've got used to driving your car. Owned one myself for several years and helped me progress my driving alot.

Very vaild point about having to upgrade too soon etc. I'm looking at upgrading my EX-5 from the 90's to a EX10, but I want the ability to put a 2.4Ghz module in etc.
