So i can gauge interest i'm looking at how many people would be interested in purchasing a front brace to protect the front hinge pins and blocks ?
The more people that want one the cheeper it will be
Let me know. The first brace will be for the 2mm front and rear track spacers, if any other size's are required again let me know. :)

I'm hoping for around about £10. But you will have to dremmel some material from the bumper.

Dude, I want two asap!!!!!
Just to remind all, when fitting one of these, it is well worth replacing screws, blocks and hinge pins. It'll give the brace a better chance of lining up, and then the brace ought to keep it alligned.

Sorry for the quality of the pictures but you can get the jist. The top and bottom lips are going to be reduced slightly so it doesn't hit the bulkhead and to reduce the amount of material to be taken of the bumper but that's the only changers that will be made. They will be made up sometime this week at the latest tuesday the 19TH.

I've left the rear nuts off the hinge pin which can bind up the suspension as standard.
It also makes it easier to remove the suspension if needed by just unscrewing the hinge pin.

Looks well made, but can't see wat you are gaining other than stopping ripping the screws out, screws are still going to bend, and the rear wishbone hangers I would say are more prone now as you have more leverage from both sides not just one!

Hello paul thanks for the compliment
From experience it's mainly been the front 10* block and screws that have bent and crushed, making the front spread out and causing the rear blocks and screws to do the same because of the leverage. This brace will stop that ;)

Hi Paul,
The rear front-wishbone blocks break because of the sliding motion of the wishbone going back on an impact, so if you have the nut on there loose and the front block is tightened and screw not bent, it should stop this - although many of us, me included, don't run the nut as it does tend to tighten and bind the wishbone up.
So perhaps threadlock the nut on loosely.
Ive snapped 2 of these, both times in big crashes - hitting stationary car on the straight at full speed. But both times ive also broken a wishbone, severely bent the screw and crippled the front block too, also the pin bent. So unavoidable/expected damage.
With the front block tight, this new brace on, and nut loosely on the back the rear block should be as safe as it can be I reckon.
Come on Steve, send me my braces, im dieing to run these....

Thanks Lee  For those of you that receive your braces today !!!! REMEMBER !!!! for best results use new inner hingepins and blocks. You may get away with your old ones, but mine were bent well out of shape:o:o We have also made them so the thread of the hingepin cuts the brace hole ;) The hingepins should be tight enough that you will not need the rear lock nut and washer, which also has the added benefit of not destroying your chassis and not binding up the suspension.
Hope everyone likes this product and good luck :)
Regards steve brew.

Got the braces on both my cars now, excellent work Steve.
When fitting, note to all: Loosen the M3 screws into the gearbox sides, and tighten them once the brace is on tightly... just makes things easier and line up with less chance of stress if anything is going to be stressed at all.
The other thing, the bumper mod is easy, just use a cutting disk on a dremel and take out a section immediately above the holes in the bumper exactly like Steve has done. I did mine really close to the screw holes as it needs to be, if not close enough then the bumper holes don't line up to the gearbox holes.
Oh, and I did try my first bumper mod with the small sanding drum, and it doesn't work. I shouldn't be so lazy and found the cutting disk. By using the drum I also reduced the depth of the screw holes in the bumper a little and although it'll be okay, its not as good as using a cutting disk and leaving the depth of the holes alone.
Good work Steve, fitting time about 5minutes once I stopped being lazy and used the cutting disk on the dremel.

Ran both my cars today, and gave them both plenty of abuse - the front screws and alloy blocks are as new...
I had to go find a shock in one qualifier, and in the final I crashed at the start quite hard, one corner was 6ft up in the bush at the end of the straight at Bury.... still all is good apart from wishbone, the hinge pin screw bent upwards only, so all it needs is hinge pin and wishbone.
Good work Steve... highly recommend this item

I was thinking this also before i had this brace made and was told it would cost to much to make. :(
For the sake of cutting a bit out of the bumper its good to keep it simple. :)
I wasn't thinking of anything complex, simply having a cut away to allow it to pass over the bumper with more metal below. So it would still be flat but more like :
o_o
than
o-o
i.e. more U shaped if that makes sense. (p.s. imagine the line is thicker than that I'm just trying to give an impression).
Anyway nice work on what you've done already :) I just don't want to dremel as I'm concerned it will create gaps that will let dirt in.
Hopefully schumacher are working on a fix themselves.

 Steve, I need another brace dude...
I hit a kerb flat out, and it ripped the car to shreds. But testiment to the brace, it didn't let the pivot pin splay out and therefore saved the purple blocks..... what I did to though is bend the hing pin screws, sheer two screw heads off and turn the Alloy brace into a 'Z'...
Ive now fitted a new front end to the Cat, with M4 front screws, and using another Brace (thankfully I got another off you at Ozfest)
So yeh, highly recommend. The nature of the alloy bending is perfect - could have been a lot worse than it was for me.

Carl, carry 2 ;) They are made of Alloy which is ideal as it allows some flex and give without the screw bending, but without limiting anything else, but in a large impact (ive had many LOL) they do twist and bend while saving other more expensive items. ;)

Make sure that you fit with NEW blocks, if you have been using the car without a brace, chances are they could be slightly out of shape and the hinge pin could also be bent ;) After you fit your brace leave OFF the backing nut and washer at the back of the front hingepin and then tighten up the block screws to let everything square up.
Happy Christmas to yeh and all our BW-RACING customers

Stegger's braces are the way to go for the front end, I'm waiting for mine to arrive soon. Shumacher has also addressed this issue by making a thicker front pivot block using a 4mm screw instead of the 3mm, but you have to change the front lower transmision half to accept the bigger screw. Stegger's brace is the most cost efficient fix.

For all those lucky people with the SXII i'm still making the front braces in 1mm and 2mm configurations. I am also still modifying the SX and SXII layshafts so you can use losi and team associated spur gears ;)
You can also do this with the Cougar layshafts ;);)
Braces = £10.00 each or £17.00 for a 1mm and 2mm kit
Layshafts = £15.00 only by special order
P&P = £1.50 UK, £2.00 europe or £3.00 ROW

Sounds good !
Might be a daft question but what are the differences on the car for the 1mm and 2mm wersio why build both?
Whats also included in doing the layshafts and is that a new one supplied or do you need mine on a return basis?

The 1 and 2 relates to how many spacers you use on the steering blocks. If you use 1mm spacers then you use the 1mm brace, etc. For a stock Cat you will need the 1mm brace.

God, haven't been on here for a while  Just to let everyone know i've ran out of the 1mm braces :o (not sure if i will be able to get anymore)
I still have plenty of the 2mm braces but once they go like the 1mm, when they go there will be no more. And i have 1 modified layshaft left ;)
Thankyou to everyone who has bought from me over the last 12 months, will see you soon.

My cat came with this brace on it and it's never been removed until today when I widened the track on the front. What do you know... 1 of my blocks stripped the thread from a small knock on a track marker. 100% sure this wouldn't have happened with the brace installed.
