Any comments and pics etc. as considering removing the threaded shocks on my B4

Works and fits perfectly, but you can't use the JConcepts front spoiler with the Losi shocks, especially not when they are set on the inside position on the front shocktower. You'll have to make one like these: http://picasaweb.google.be/bnkoffroad/BNK2009Round2KampenhoutMBV#5329474417662950754

Some say Losi shocks take some 'sharpness' out of the car and make it a bit smoother, but haven't tested the difference myself. I use them on my B4 and S2 and they work great.

You should be able to....since we favour Losi shocks on the X6 quite a bit and use the JConcepts spoiler all the time on the front and the X-Factory car of course uses the whole B4 front end. We dont have any issues with certain mounting holes fouling.

So what part numbers are required and do AE springs fit? I remember my Losi XX shocks being good.

Ok thanks I'll price it up, but was hoping they sold them as a complete pack. I assume we are talking circa £50

Bugger a duck - oh well there goes part of my callout money, unless I get the knack of AE shocks very quickly.

You can try ebay.

V-Rossi
09-05-2009, 12:50 PM
Or buy a cheap second hand XXX-BK2 or CR and use the shocks and slipper. These shocks may be twice the budget, but are also twice as fun to work with :)

mikeyscott
11-05-2009, 07:33 PM
Will the shocks from an XXXCR fit?

jono83
11-05-2009, 07:50 PM
yep those are the exact ones you need i had a cr before my x6 so i swapped the shocks straight over. the ones off a losi 4wd well the rear ones are to long and give to much droop and not enough up travel

mikeyscott
11-05-2009, 07:51 PM
I'm looking at a 4wd kit to rob them off, so I'll look for a 2wd version

jono83
11-05-2009, 07:59 PM
the fronts are identical you could get them off a 4wd but you would need these parts to replace the bodies and shafts on the rears

LOSA5055 Threaded Shock Body Set .9"

LOSA5064 Shock Shaft,1.0" Ti-Nitride x2

Mmm not too bad then. and then obviously different springs. Circa £30 for the missing parts

What springs do people recommend for astro turf?

As well as ordering the two bit mentioned above I'll need these I assume:

jono83

yes you will need 4 but if you buy a car that already has them on you wont need to buy extra ones if you get me. as for springs on my x6 i use black blue and green front and red pink rears but am not sure if these will be correct for the b4 due to being rear motored and the x6 being mid motored

Cool, we'll see what turns up. Plan is to take the spare shocks, and just sell the car straight on without taking anything off it.

Ordered the needed bits from DMS. The base of the shocks, are they like the AE ones where the screw goes through etc.

Anyone got any pics of the shocks on a B4? I assume I can download the manual from the Losi site..

What bolts do people use for securing the shocks

Mike Hudson
14-05-2009, 05:50 PM
the same ones you use for the ae shocks although you may need slightly longer screws for the shock towers as the bushings that the shocks sit on are abit longer I think

mikeyscott
16-05-2009, 07:36 PM
Any recommendations for screws so I can order them up :)

jono83
16-05-2009, 07:49 PM
For the tops or bottom of the shocks?
for the bottoms i would use some nortech shock bottom retaining screws and i think i use 3/4inch ones for the tops all 4-40 btw

The spare shocks that arrived with the XXX4 are the non threaded version, are the parts cross compatible?

I bought the shorter shafter and threaded body from DMS, but now thinking of ordering the threaded body for the front.

peetbee
19-05-2009, 12:52 PM
All the Losi shock parts are compatible, just need to make sure you have the right length shock shafts in the shock body!

Mike Hudson

why didn't you take the threaded shocks off the xxx4 and put the non threaded ones on it and sell it on? You wouldn't of had to spend £££ on more parts then...

The car came with two sets of non threaded shocks. One set on the car and one as spares

I've take the spare set of shocks and the car has been sold on. I have a complete set. I then ordered the required shorter parts from DMS. So at the moment the rears will be threaded and the fronts non

ohryt was pretty sure when i looked at that car in the pics they looked like threaded shocks on the car :bored::( the fronts never need much adjustment so you should be ok :)

jono83

yeah i should imagine so try building one from the parts of the threaded onoe you already have

Looking at the pic again, they're not threaded. Perhaps I should have waited..

Cool, just need springs now as I've taken the pink and green springs.. Strip them down, clean them and build them. Then hope for no leaks.. Will prob order some seals from Nortech.

Would like threaded on the fronts, but will leave that for the mo...

mikeyscott

I've fitted one of the shocks to the rear and the spring lightly rubs on the turnbuckle. Do others have this?

Using original AE screw, losi top shock mount and nortech nuts

I.e. put swap the bushings with the front, as for the hubs that'll affect the toe settings

Time to find some standard ones..

if you use the tc5 shock caps on the asso shocks it makes them smooth and air free like a tamiya. otherwise, i understand and agree the losi shocks are nicer in stock form.
