The 1/10th off road circus is now coming to Jarrow Regional 23/24th of May.

As Chris Patterson is on holiday this week (In Mexico) I’d thought I would start a thread.

Track Building will begin on Friday 22 May 11am at Bents Park South Shields, all help will be very much appreciated.

We also need a Race Director, any offers???

Cheers

Chris Green

Will there be a truck class on the 2wd day ?

It was agreed that there would be a truck class on the 2wd day, as long as there was sufficient entries. Last time I looked there was only 5 booked in for truck class.

theres 7 people booked in for truck currently but Ben J won't be running but Dan Greenwood is supposidly racing his truck but not booked in for it and maybe Tom Cockerill will run his too? Know a few others with trucks who may run also... surely 6, 7, or 8 trucks is enough for a heat? You got nothing to lose really have you? As you'll be getting more money for the club :)

Its marshal cover thats more important than number of drivers. I cant see 6 marshals being enough to cover a regional heat. However a decision will be made on the day depending upon number of truck drivers present. I would happily pay extra and race in the truck heat but use my 4wd. This has been open to much debate in the past as to whether it gives an unfair advantage or not. I think not and think if people want to then they should be allowed. This also gives clubs more revenue and can only be a good thing in the long run...

Suggestion - whatever number of non-regional driver entries there are, 4, 8, whatever, split them into more than 1 heat and make them marshal each other's heat. Leave the Regional drivers to marshal the regional heats.

Here's some infor for the weekend:

Details for NERCR 2009 Outdoor regional Weekender

Saturday 23rd May (2WD) and Sunday 24th May (4WD) (Bank holiday weekend at the end of May).

Camping available free of charge on Friday and Saturday nights, on South Shields Sea Front, in a locked park (NERCR will have the keys).

We have sole use of the Bents Park for the weekend.
This event is sponsored by South Tyneside Council.

Toilet facilities open 24hours within the park, for our use only. Voted best toilets of the outdoor regional series 2008!
Burger van will be attending all day Saturday and all day Sunday. We’ll get it to park closer to the track this time.
BBQs are allowed, we only ask that you do not damage the grass in anyway, and that all litter is removed from the site as usual.
Dogs welcome! Just not on the track unless they are a BRCA member.
Alcohol can be, and is encouraged to be consumed on both Friday and Saturday and Sunday nights!

Recreational park is 50 metres away, with pedalloes, kids mini train, Pub is 50 metres away, does great food. Fairground is 75 metres away, with bowling alley etc. The beach is 100 metres away. Restaurants are 150 metres away. And there's plenty room for that pre finals game of football.

The track will be of a very high standard. The mowers and rollers used for preparing the bowling greens in the town are being used to prepare the surface, but don’t expect a bowling green flat track, there’ll be one or two things in there to keep you awake!

Bear in mind this is a public park. We have been asked to keep speeds when driving in the park down to 10MPH, with hazard lights on, and drive in a clockwise direction around the field. Let’s keep the council happy so we can keep using this facility for free.

Lets look forward to a weekend of good racing

If anyone is looking for places to eat, try:

Fish and Chips – UK’s best fish and chip shop about 200m away, Colmans – serves the queen fish and chips, Tony Blair eats here, and I think David Pack has aswell!

Curry – not a bad curry restaurant on Ocean Road – theres 15 of them on the one road.

Just seen this thread but by co-incidence did actually get the online booking to work this morning. Booked in for all 3 classes and therefore trucks.

Can we know either way about trucks before the weekend please as it's one of the main reasons I'm coming. I can assure you I'll marshall the same pace, whatever heat it is.

Matty - to help you think outside the box.......
I was replying to the earlier comment that one of the issues with having non-regional heats, often less than 8 drivers, is not having a full compliment of marshals for the following heat - i.e. Heat 1 Regional would lack marshals. If you follow my suggestion, the non-regional heat would lack marshals but Heat 1 regional would be marshalled by the top regional heat.
How does that sound?
I'm trying to encourage the idea of non-regional heats to increase the driver numbers, increase the fun for the day and increase the income of poor R/C clubs.

That's fine, only trouble might be the ones I might be needing to try the different fronts (ones are cut and ones are not) as this weekend I'm trying to set the truck up for Belgium. So we might need to swap during the day.

G - If you're not going this weekend, who is BRCA rep in your abscence? Is it Vermin?.

Before anyone goes off on one, this is nothing sinister, just something that crossed my mind as am currently deputising for my boss in work. That said I might have some fun and games if it is Vermin ;)

A few other things that have been suggested to me need mentioning:

Rubbish - Lets take our rubbish with us please! Bags will be available from race control (if we remember to get them).

Noise - neighbouring static caravans in park, and children staying on site.....just asking for a bit of respect

Who they can contact if they will be late arriving, I know sometimes things happen on route.

You can call Peter Ellis or david Pack if you have their numbers, as they are staying in the park. Or you can call me on my number here: 07779713490 and Ill sort something out, I only live 200yds away.

The team did a great job of sorting out the 4wd track problems.
Well done to James for the double win

4wd results were something like this:

1. James chappel Pred
2. Damian whittle 501 x
3. Stephen lawson B44
4. Ben riley? B44
5. Arslaan butt B44
6. Ben Jemison B44

2wd for me was good, the x6 was dialled in rd 2 and 3, maybe i just stopped being a girl?

4wd was a nightmare all day apart from practice  but thats racing.

Yes, the referees were excellent. I was ref'd all day by Footy, and he did a great job. I think all of the finals were excellent to watch and race in. I had a good race with Chris Hirst and Mike Hudson (sorry for shouting Mike), the B final looked ace with Jeff , Stu Flamson, and Chris Stewart and Stephen Adams having a great race, and the A final was excellent aswell.

26-05-2009, 12:14 PM
Sounds like a good meeting, sorry I could not be there guys :(

About the refs, I think I'll know the guys who did it, and basically they will have all done it on the day as well as racing. ANYONE can have a go at reff'ing, don't just expect these people to do it at every round. If you fancy having a go, why not help one of these guys at a round? Stand next to them, learn from them, then volunteer at the next round?

Anyone can ref, it just takes a bit of experience, but you don't get that without doing it. 'The refs' are 'The racers' they are the same people. Why don't you have a go next time? :) -- the 'you' in this last sentence doesn't refer to anyone in particular btw, it refers to everyone.

Just one question... how come we ran open practice for 2wd but not in 4wd? Not a complaint!

chrispattinson
26-05-2009, 02:46 PM
Open practice occurred for 2WD as it was easier for the organisers, who were still preparing things that morning, we only have so many hands to help. (I think I was outside the park putting up posters etc. for example when practice got underway).

It was discussed on the Saturday night that it was one of the shortcomings of the day, and so (with Chris Stewarts emphasis on fair practice for everyone), he controlled all of the timed practice on the Sunday for 4WD.

Think you got it right Neil........... mid week drinking + oople + pack = all kinds of trouble.
More ammunition for this best man speech I'm putting together???

I think plenty people thanked you Mr. Pack, Peter on here, and plenty in the flesh on Sat and Sun.

I think theres plenty people who know they were apreciated on the weekend, and if we singled people out somepeople would get missed out by mistake. I can think of loads, inc Keith, Mike West, Jeff, Neil, Alex, James, Chris Green, Barry, Greg, Phil, Craig, Stephen, ......people who helped fix the track Sunday morning incl S. Pierce, S Lawson, Dan etc........... where does it end.....

 for volunteering for next years race director aswell, a big THANK YOU!

As for that bloke messing round with the computer on the Sunday. Big thanks to him again, and his Mrs., he should have stuck that X-5 a lot higher up the field though were it not for a few mishaps!

Well I see people have bit and not taken my post in the context it was intended.

It was to wind up some Jarrow members but what the hell.

Where the hell did David Platt come from? Someone had been on the crack pipe obviously.

Happy Days.
