Hello needed a replacement for my Durango so i made this

many thanks to Microtech racing for supplying the car a couple of weeks ago in such a fast efficient manner:thumbsup:

Bmax

Rebelrc

All Bmax with no mods just retro fit and 50/50 weight distribution with any Brca legal lipo saddle
cheers mat:)

awesome - looks really good Scott. That chassis is ace - did you make it or have it made for you?

Rebelrc

20-05-2009, 11:28 PM
What's the battery layout going to be like? Is there much room for electrics?

Rebelrc
20-05-2009, 11:32 PM
Made it my self....big weave...nice and shiney
cheers Jimmy shame it hasnt got any oople stickers on it!:(
the curvey moulded carbon topdeck/cover is going to look better though if it works (cant see why not)
those towers are 6mm thick

Rebelrc
20-05-2009, 11:36 PM
tons of room ben:D
this is a rough guide

i had my hands on this at the weekend. It looks good, and i fitted my demon saddle lipos, an LRP sphere, motor, servo and chunky receiver in it fine.

just get it on a track soon Scott!!

nitrokillah

wow that layout looks really intersting . :woot:

might be the next step of Evolition .

Chris Doughty
21-05-2009, 10:34 AM
with the motor facing that way, do you need to change the direction of rotation for the motor?

DCM
21-05-2009, 10:58 AM
depends on the crownwheel/pinion orientation I guess...?

Chris Doughty
21-05-2009, 11:02 AM
depends on the crownwheel/pinion orientation I guess...?

if its BMAX transmission and the motor is then 'backwards' to how it is in the BMAX, unless you put the diffs it backwards to compensate for this, the motor would need to be reversed

DCM
21-05-2009, 11:08 AM
yeah, I understand that Chris, it is far less complicated to swap crownwheel orientation than it is to get the brushless to run properly, backwards.

Chrislong
21-05-2009, 11:10 AM
This is possible with the Novak Slyder , possibly others, but I know the Slyder does this for sure.

Like it, looks very Pro... let us know how it performs, I reckon you could sell many conversions... ;)

DCM
21-05-2009, 11:13 AM
the new Tekin software does it too, gives you an option to reverse motor direction

Rebelrc
21-05-2009, 11:32 AM
just checked it out...scared me there:D
crown wheel orientation swaped as i thought runs the car forwards and motor inertia is transmitted in board to help damp the effect also the transmission spins the opposite way helping to cancel that out.

Rebelrc
21-05-2009, 11:35 AM
Yes i have proper moulds for the carbon so should be quite easy to make more
the best bits are still to come.;)

Rebelrc

Hopefully better pics:confused:

Does anyone know how much the bmax stainless screw kit is from Northy

footey
21-05-2009, 12:10 PM
i belive he dosnt do a screw kit for the bmax :(

MHeadling
21-05-2009, 04:17 PM
Hey Scott, my b max had stainless screws on it, I made up a kit from a bulk pack of metric screws from Rc Screwz, you get a big box of all sizes in M3 from 6-25mm so enough to do 2-3 cars I reckon

Or look on google at stagonset they do nice Ss screws and uk based

Rebelrc
21-05-2009, 04:19 PM
Cheers Mark:)

That is seriously cool!! That must have taken a fair few evenings!! Cant wait to see it up close!! If only I could find the time to finish my projects.

Rebelrc
21-05-2009, 10:26 PM
Cheers Adam....4 evenings
side by side with my durango my new car is
Cheaper (to me)
slimmer
easier to work on
easier to obtain parts
more durable
better weight distribution
fits all legal lipo saddles...then some
more adjustable
same geometry able
lower polar inertia
One donor (not kebab)
easier radio fit
more droop acheivable

just seemed the right way to go its been in my mind for years
it looks very simple but i have been waiting for the right kind of kit ( spec/price/potential) to come along ....you know me ads not wasting any space to the mm
the bmax was the one, its a great car and i am very impressed with it even as a standard kit

cheers:)

J_WOODY
21-05-2009, 10:35 PM
Have you got a bodyshell made for it yet? i'm looking forward to seeing this once its all done.... great work and great project  the quality looks superb:drool:

Rebelrc
21-05-2009, 10:56 PM
No not yet i still have to make lots of bits
i am planning on a spring loaded tab that you pull and the motor/clutch hinge out for easy cell changing
and some massively curved carbon reinforcing/topdecky type thing thats not near the top! to brace her up a bit
shells only take an hour or so:yawn:
and you know me it will be proper snug:thumbsup:
cheers j woody

J_WOODY
21-05-2009, 11:03 PM
No not yet i still have to make lots of bits
and some massively curved carbon reinforcing/topdecky

This is what i thought you'd have in mind, a curved topdeck/brace would take it to another level:thumbsup:, i may have a go at doing a b-max at some stage, but i'll probably do one to allow standard cell configuration, yours is crazy slim :woot:

Rebelrc
27-05-2009, 03:21 PM
Having a few problems with time and the carbon bracing at the minute
i will crack it though....

Rebelrc
27-05-2009, 07:29 PM
Mould number8 just finished:yawn: hope this one works....there Ģ80 a pop.....feeling kinda skint

ben
27-05-2009, 07:42 PM
So you've spent Ģ640 on moulds so far?

Rebelrc
27-05-2009, 07:53 PM
There has been 10 so far:thumbsup: those 8 have been for one pain in the backside bit:D

J_WOODY
27-05-2009, 08:04 PM
Ģ80 per mould is very cheap! if you went to a company like fibre-lyte, they'd be more than double that price + vat:(. hope your latest mould works out for you, i'm looking forward to seeing the finished conversion

Rebelrc
27-05-2009, 08:23 PM
Cheers Woody.

OldTimer
27-05-2009, 09:41 PM
Looking forward to seeing it :)

I did wonder on the earlier photos how you were going to brace the front and rear, i have always thought if you can do it is to have a high wall at the back and slots for the wishbones to hang out of, i.e. the tub wall carries on until the very back of the car, and simlar at the front.

A bit like this http://www.fibre-lyte.co.uk/fl/cars/yokomo/mr4tcsdtub.html

Would be such a clean design ;)

Rebelrc
02-06-2009, 08:44 PM
cheers Jonathon
i have just been working on the rear bracing heres some pics
it looks rough at mo but will soon be sorted ;)
looks a bit odd to me?
i just need to square up and cut it out symetricley
it is very hard to photograph because its so curved it allways looks p***ed
oh and that is rebel my cat in the foreground haha

ben
02-06-2009, 08:49 PM
That's some pretty hardcore moulding!

does that brace have to be removed in order to take the cells out?

Rebelrc
02-06-2009, 08:53 PM
Yes Ben the car has been made to take lipos
but 6 screws will get em out:thumbsup:
i can cut it out more so they come out from the top but not got that far :)yet.......+it seemed sacrilage to chop away all those curves:thumbdown:

This car is looking unbelievable!! You've set a new standard!!! Do you know when you are going to take it for a test drive? Boughton maybe? What changes have you made to the B Max? Geometry? Weight distribution? It must be stiffer than the original!

Rebelrc
08-06-2009, 05:34 PM
The weight distribution is 52 rear 48 front with no weight so far and the geometry/length is standard bmax
hoping to run it at faversham soon
but i have learnt one thing from building this....i wont build another carbon car they are a pain:cry:
the mess is a nightmare and they need lots of bracing
i will finish it though, just its a bit boring:bored:

Ive started work again on this car (had to stop due to being ill from carbon dust excessive inhillation....very bad)
the car is now nearly ready to turn its wheels for the first time
motor mount done, servo mount, front and rear clam shells, steering brace all done but sadly i cannot get the images uploaded due to my computer breaking.....windows up the swaney .......so running on linux now so i have no drivers for my camera:eh?:
does any one know of any other cars that have run this cell layout?
or can anyone see any thing that i should expect from this arrangement?
many thanks
P.S that rear clam shell has been altered as i didnt like it its much more pure now none of all that fancy shite:)

It is indeed very nice, where does the receiver go though?

GRIFF55
18-11-2009, 04:06 PM
It could go up front i suppose as the servo looks to be behind the slipper assembly. Long arm link to steering. It is a sexy beast

Rebelrc
18-11-2009, 04:44 PM
I have been a bit lazy with it and havent touched it for a while until last night when i finished it at last
all i need to do is wire it and make a shell, so should be running real soon:thumbsup:
thanks for your kind words
i will post some more pics

Rebelrc
18-11-2009, 05:08 PM

Now i've come to think of it : you probably had to machine parts to tilt the f/r gearbox and raise the centre drive ?

I have to admit i watched the car all night and passed on what i have learnt with my bmax, all the changes from the bmax to Scotts creation worked i even think it jumped better.
Well done Scott the only thing is i watched it all night gave some advice but did not drive the bugger.:p

Have ago next week Neil:) before i hang it on the wall of wacky creations.... i will be glad of the feedback from an experienced racer like yourself.
Stox it went well i think and complete reliability which is suprising considering how altered it is ...you would expect something to work loose , fall off , or snap.
i must be getting better at creating these odd cars :eh?:

Hello,
could someone point me towards as much info as possible regarding moulds for CF ? I've read the offroadcult article about the piranha p2 but that sure does not seem to cost 80 pounds...

Nice project anyway !

Only just seen this! Fantastic craftmanship & thinking outside the box! *big applause*

To me the A-C carbon tub shells are the coolest & most impressive pieces of RC components I've ever seen in my entire life. I just love my S2 and S44!

Yours looks to be of the same standard!

AND - you've thinked outside of the box making that totally "alien/organic" top brace! Never seen anything like that!

Made me think... why not try to mold the whole shell out of thin carbon fibre, and attaching it firmly to the chassis, making it a part of the main construction itself? Then painting some of it, leaving some nude carbon...

Would be like today's top skis and surfboards, where you can see parts of the internal carbon (or wooden) core  PORN!!!

But basically buy some resin and some twill , make a mould stick in the twill with the resin and waaalllaaa! Let it set .... Job done

Rebelrc
26-11-2011, 07:22 PM
I like the associated term unobtainium
Meaning the perfect material for the job that doesn't exist lol:)
I think they are anodised titanium

You can anodise titanium yourselves at home safely using a charger/powersupply and sugar soap as the electrolyte
As you increase the current the tit changes colour from reds through golds pinks and blue ( not correct order, forgotten it ) no dyes needed
So something like 20volts you get purple etc

Rebelrc
29-11-2011, 05:47 PM

Many thanks guys for all the debates over the years:thumbsup:
I've loved winning them and loved loosing them equally
But most of all thanks oople for a wonderful forum that is un biased , free, friendly and now invaluable as the main offroad source of info!
Well done jimmy and friends;)
You have certainly kept me entertained on my tea breaks at work
I will never forget topping out a roof in January in the pouring rain sitting on the ridge, soaked, pauseing the workers cause I needed to answer a debate with Roger mills about shock pistons lol:thumbsup: that was ace Roger cheers
If I've ever upset anyone please don't take it to heart it was never with malice
I've met some real nice intresting people through oople.... Some don't even like me but I think your all ace
I think I'm different and do not really have a place here anymore
I'm really sad about it. But it's fact
I was constantly thought of as biased towards vega/Xtreme for obvious reason but truthfully I wasn't ,,, I only stuck up for it cause it was being wronged
Truth is all modern chassis are great , we in offroad have never been so spoilt!
Will still look in occasionally but no more post from me
Yes I will have withdrawal cause I'm an oople addict but it's for the best.
I posted here in this thread cause didn't want to troll
And this thread was my only true success on oople
I'm still going to make crap , and may post images if they are intresting but
no more comments in public forum just pm
Cheers

The problem is, some people read a thread think about it (sometimes a lot) then post there opinion. Then 2 seconds later they are being called all the names under the sun by some one only out to cause trouble .

you dare to post some information based on mechanical or technical experience, gained by years of manufacturing and machining, or just years of racing and repairing (sometimes on a ridiculously tight budjet) only to get instantly dismissed by someone who can't mesh there motor correctly or even do the wheels up tight.

Top job guys!

Hey rebel,

my english may not be the best, but i understand enaugh to know that we have a serious problem, one of the gratest car builders wants to leave us behind!
PLEASE DONīT!
Or if you donīt want to post in other forum sections, please keep us updated with your ideas and new cars and please keep on building cars it would be sad to waste this talent.
This is what makes the hobby for me, building own cars. Sadly iIcanīt! :( Thats how I got to this forum, I was looking for more pics of a selfmade car.

Please stay at oople!

No !!!!!

I enjoy reading your posts, the ones I've read come across as simply unbiased and well informed. Lots of particular manufacturer 'fan boys' and 'team' drivers post biased opinions on here, personally I like to hear from people in the know, who pay their own way in this hobby.

Keep making cool buggies, whatever you decide :)

Cheers
Scott

damn you scott i think a tear has just rolled down my cheek

Agreed with Andy - your creations are some of the best mate!
Don't take things too serious though and have fun whatever you're up to man.

I can't wait to replace my current Durango chassis with one of your creations..

Loads of support on here for you mate, you got me back racing.. not sure if that's a positive lol

I still need something to strive for and I could live a number of lifetimes and still be nowhere near your awesome ideas and know how..

The other Scott..

How many other people on here have built there own cars? And raced it?

maybe the major manufacturers should look at what can be built by 1 man in his shed, then hang their heads in shame, for what they produce and want to charge for it.
