Cool.
Will it be any better than your existing airbrush? I reckon your work is already damn good, so whatsup with the old airbrush?

It is a replica of a very expensive airbrush. What fluid nozzle sizes can you get, where from, and how much was it?

Looks like an iwata airbrush.

from where I get my stuff, it is an AB-180 but only got a 0,2mm nozzle, bit small for faskolor, and it is £45+vat

dcm was the closest and yeh agreed ithink there the same thing as ab180/203

0.23mm nozzle for fine detail with light to medium paints
Hand-fitted and tested matched head system
Gravity-feed with 1/3oz (9ml) cup
Dual-action
Internal-mix
Fine detail to 1" (0.23mm to 25mm) spray pattern
Removable head assembly for easy cleaning
Easy roll top trigger
Body cut-out for easy adjustment of needle packing and lubrication
Crown cap
Highly polished, hardened stainless-steel needle for exceptionally smooth transition from detail to mid-range spraying, the nice thing is the limiter at the back controls how much you can pull back on the trigger. and fire

i only use it with faskolor paints and I'm half way through painting my third car with it,
it sprays faskolor perfect i do thin all my paints slightly with a 50/50 mixture of water and isoproponal alcohol and it works sweet, i thin to about 3/1 paint thinner slight more for really fine work say almost 50/50,
i do agree its a blatant ripoff off the iwata which is kinda why i bought it and its cost less than £30, and disappointing have to say yes its as good as the one that cost £295

where do you get isopropnal alchohol from?

bigred5765
20-02-2007, 11:21 AM
all ab fluid tips and nozzles are inter changeable so if you go to everything airbrush dot com you can buy any size they have and it will fit 2.5 is ideal i think
just had a look and you can get from .2 to .5 from the suction fed ones
gravity fed is the feature

what size does it come in, and how much, also, do you thin the paint in the bottl or in the hopper?

i got some empty pots i cleaned out, mix the alcohol and water 50/50 in one of those i then measure out the paint in the gun hopper say 6 drops and then drop in 2 drops of mixture, and mix using something soft so as not to damage the needle/i use a cotton bud with the cotton bit snipped of, works a treat ,try it on the inside of a washed out coke bottle and practise with the thinning till it suits your gun, counting the drops makes it easer to control the mixture instead of just bunging it in,also the more alcohol you use in the mix the quicker it will dry, remember to clean your tip using a cotton bud regular, it does dry out quicker like this, pull back the needle doing this as bent needles are a right pain in the butt.

I use tamiya acrylic thinner - probably the same stuff, smells like it is anyway.

bigred5765

not tryed that one yet, same affect i take it, i like to mix it myself as i can control how much alcohol is in there lol no not for that reason hicup??
but it alters the drying time.
you can get it from 4floz right up to 5 ltrs at out chemist they did how ever look at me wierdly when i ask how much can i buy and ask what i wanted it for,it cost nothing at all to buy

I got some of that thinner, will give it a bash, does the isopropyl keep the paint pigment from dispersing, unlike using 100% water for thinning?

bigred5765
20-02-2007, 11:47 AM
yeah it seems to stop the spidering affect you mentioned, you have to reduce your air pressure as well. obviously

DCM

thats ace, as I find the quality or should I say, viscosity of paint varies quite a bit, black is the best, and oddly, I find white, the worst, as it always seems to spray more powdery rather than a fluid.

you can also get a retarder to slow the drying process from createx, which helps the white spray out better.

Looks like a bargain that airbrush.

Carl, what kind of compressor do you use, would any of the cheap ones on this guys site be ok ? Cheers. Andy.

PS. I use some great stuff made by Badger, called 'Spray-Away' airbrush cleaner, not sure what's in it, but is sure as hell cleans ANYTHING, out of the airbrush, highly reccomended.

Faskolor cleans out easily just with water, the spray head normal needs a wipe around, and thats it.

Is there somewhere that sells the createx stuff individualy (and is it Createx Classic)

RED: You got a link to where you got that airbush? I am using an Aztek at the mo, an ace brush but it's an internal mix job and the paint drys up in the tip every 20 seconds or so when you are doing details... SO annoying.
